problem with one of my torch

Hi everyone,

4 weeks ago I bought what I tought was a nice green torch. It was retracted at the store, but MH had just turned off so I thought it was normal if I compare to my actual brown torch.

The thing is that it has stayed retracted since. I changed its location, I tried 10 000K bulb and 14 000K but without success. My 2 other euphylia are looking great, so I really don't see. Any idea ?

could be alot of things. could be a poor acclimation. it could even be still acclimating right now. you have to remember that tanks can be so different from one another and sometimes it takes a while for the coral to adjust. take someone from so cal and move them to northern alaska.......it'd take a while for them to adjust and feel comfortable in that climate. same thing with corals.
but then again its also possible that your attempts to help it are actually the stressing factor. from 10k to 14k and id assume that with each move you moved it higher and lower up the rock work and exposed it to different rates and directions of flow.
but then it could be your params, could just be an unhealthy coral......the list goes on.
my suggestion would be this. put it in low light and give it a small amount of flow. try and feed it if it will accept food to speed up the process. as a last resort id give it a lugols dip. lugols can turn a coral around suprisingly well in some cases but with euphyllia ive noticed they dont really care for dips lol.
good luck to you and i hope i didnt make you feel more hopeless then you did when you made this post.lol. let us know how things pan out.

thanks,

i'm not that hopeless, I keep thinking that I do the best for it. I'll put it back to the bottom (where it was first) and see. I currently have a Lugol bottle so I might try.

don't know if this will help, but i have my torch right near the top of the tank & it's been doing great with this placement.

well, I did the Lugol dip and lost one head. I tried both the top and the bottom of the tank without success. I can understand that I might have a non healthy coral, but I can't understand that every head are affected.

I can't see how it can recover after being closed for 6 weeks.

I also gave him Cyclop-eez, usually coral react very well to that food.

thanks for your answers
