Problems with Ranco thermostats

When I set up my tanks I used Ranco thermostats to control the heaters because of all the different recommendations out there. That was five years and three different and separate tanks ago. As of last week, I have had to replace all three at different times . They seem to last 2-2.5 years and then start to have problems. Two of them would display a temp of 149 degrees regardless of actual temperature and the other is reading 5 degrees too high. Two were mounted in the sump area and a third was on a shelf between the tank platform and the sump area. I no longer use these and have moved onto a digital thermostat controller made by Inkbird and available through Amazon. Works the same as Ranco and comes completely wired and for less money. Hopefully these will last longer.

Good luck.. inkbirds seem to be fine..
Any product can fail but in general Ranco makes great/reliable products..
Calibration may be required...

Mine started to go bad too. I waterproofed the sensor on the Ranco, but I think after some time water got in and it failed. I ordered a controller from Amazon to use until I fixed the Ranco. Turns out the controller I bought from Amazon is working great that I just left in place on the DT and moved the Ranco after I fixed it to the QT. The replacement I bought from Amazon has been on the tank for a little over a year now with no issues and keeps the tank steady at 77-78 degrees.
