my first problom ever
it was skimming fine. then i unpleded it and plugged it back in and it rattled a bit so i unpluged and repluged and it still rattled then just stoped

is it possiable a coil went bad or do you think it just needs to be cleaned ( been in tank for like 5 months. dont wanna remov eit if i dont have to since its in a hard to get to area lol

I think the upper bearing is cemented to the magnetic rotor at least partially, it would be normal for the motor to need cleaning about now. It is extremely rare for the coil to break.

yeah it was just actign like the rio that quit on me after 1 day lol ( and thats what was wrong wih it the coil)

ill leave it off for now and clean it tomorrow
i think its also time i clean my mag 12 and my ocean motion >< everything happens at the same time lol

but why did this happen out of the blue
silet one second unplug and replug and its acting up. just incase somthing did break how much is a new pump?

The pump has a 2 year warranty. They cost about $90 for a motor coil only or $160 complete. As long as the pump was spinning it was fine but it isn't able to overcome the resistance and start, just like it takes a lot of work to start something rolling and not so much to keep it rolling.

WOOT go tunze

i was worried i danmaged it by trying to get it to run even when it was jammed but i didnt

i took the thing out. slid open the bottom and cleaned the pump in 5 minutes total

very smart how you have the pump in there. so easy to remove and clean

anyways it plugged it back in and its slowly quieting down ( i guess it needs to build up slime like hte mag pumps do befor it is silent again)

It may be that either the bush bearing isn't in all the way or their is just some air in the pump. Those are the usual causes of noise. Building up slime sin't what makes the motor quiet it is just parts wearing in and by now that process should be complete. Be sure when you cleaned it you got the upper bearing clean and free of any lime and the magnet spins smoothly on it, also be sure the hole in the center of the magnet is free of debris. Honestly, if you keep the pump in reasonable condition there is no reason to need a new one, they should last 10 years and by then you will likely just want another skimmer.

it silented down compleatly now
i guess it just needed to work it self into place or somthing

lmao me want a new skimmer ... heck no not unless tunze comes up with some super improved idea
(quantom photonic skimming or somthing lmao)

anyways i do have one complaint..
i have to look at the skimmers bubbles to tell if its on its so silent:P

Well, I would figure in 10 years we will have something new. In general the skimmers get some sort of change every 2 years or so, often it is something very minor you could upgrade with just changing a few parts. The Comline skimmers came out in 1981 and we are now on the 3rd major revision so it is fair to assume that in 5-10 years something new will be out.
