procedure for new additions

I guess i can start with what i have and why i'm not wondering about possible dips before introducing new lps frags to my display. I currently have a couple torches, frogspawns, a duncan, acan, and a few other sofies and two sps. I did not dip them when i received them as they came as frags from local reefer with an established system, so i didn't think any dipping was necessary as any infestation would have shown up in his tank. As a christmas gift my wife ordered me two more acans, an open brain, dendro, two favias, meteor shower, red candy cane, and a hammer. Now these are from an online site and i'd like to keep my tank pest free so i'm wondering, after acclimation whats a good dip to use and how long to dip them before introducing them to the display?

We'll i'd like to correct my first sentence to read why i'm wondering, not why i'm not wondering, obviously thats the whole point of this post, i'm an idiot.

I use Coral Rx. Follow instructions. I think its between 5 and 10 minutes. FWIW I dip all coral whether it came from a trusted source or not. The local guy might have a small problem even he knows nothing about but it might blow up in your tank. Dip everything!!

Revive is a good dip as well. It's very gentle. As for time, each dip product will have a recommended time on the label to keep them in the dip solution. I tend to use close to the minimum to mediian time listed.

It can also be beneficial to brush frag plugs with a soft toothbrush to dislodge any eggs that might be present. If the frag plug is old & grungy I will sometimes replace it, mainly to keep new algae strains out of the DT. It's also a good precaution to monitor & keep the LFS & dip water very close to the temperature in your DT. If the LFS water parameters are close to your DT's parameters, the a aclimation time can be briefer than if there is a large variance. I like to compare salinity of LFS water to my DT water. Usually only a .002 difference exists so aclimation needs not be a drawn out affair like you have with drip acclimation, for example. BTW it sounds like you have a cool wife with good taste...lucky you're not getting a Santa sweater!

Also, if you need to do tank maintenance it is best IMO to do it before adding a large number of corals at once....it helps them adjust better.

Thanks for the post, they are all currently in the tank now accept the red candy and the purple favia, they are on backorder. I recently got the dendro to eat after acclimating him yesterday, the only one i've yet to see come out is the meteor. with 7 coral and tupperware containers floating in the tank to keep the temp normal things get a little hectic. They came in a bit cold so i did a drip acclimation for about 2 hours, floated them for about 45 minutes, dipped for 10, rinsed with saltwater from the tank and then in they went. Also pulled off the frag plugs.

Yes, I'm lucky she puts up with me, I get restricted as to how many tanks I can have though, probably a good thing as I don't think my bank account would handle it well.

I agree with this! I actually toss all frag plugs and put new ones on. If its a maricultured coral I will frag the coral and toss the rock. I then like to use a soft toothbrush on the coral skeleton.

It only takes 1 time of learning the hard way to get super paranoid.
