Prodibio BioKit - Will start on Monday evening

I had started Reefboost with the schedule for the ReefKit. Should I wait on the Reefboost?

Where did you purchase the Amino Acids?

BTW Reef Booster are amino's . A decent one at that . Prodibio advises to run the tank 6 weeks on the Bio-Digest and BioTipm .This should get the tank's po4 and nitrate down etc . One then adds the amino's aka "reefbooster " to get corals to color up nicely .

Man, there are so many suggestions, theories, imputs and little consistancies.

I bought a BioKit today after being tired of my GFO not cutting it for good colors. My tank has no algea but I can't get my colors to come out.

I have some questions.

1. Are you supposed to mix the suppliments in RO water first? Doesn't fresh water kill bacteria????

2. Is there a mfg suggested regimine? It almost seems like we're left to the whims of trial & errors. There is a very breif suggested dosing on my kit. Don't use that??

3. Seems like Biodigest & Bioptim are the two most commonly used. Some say to conitue to use GFO, others say no. Any real answers??

I have KZ aminos and reefbooster but it seems like I need to wait till after week 6 for these (or till corals go pale).

Mix in some tank water. First the biodigest and add to the tank.
Do the same with the bioptim.
Dose every 15 days,
I still use rowa in small amounts.
When your nitrates are zero and you have no algae start the reefbooster.

wow, another new method and someone else still using GFO.

Should I take my reactor offline during the first 6 weeks and dose this stuff weekly like others suggest or dose every 15 days from the start and keep my GFO running?

My nitrates are already zero, almost no algea now, just some cyano on the sandbed from a failed carbon dosing experiment.

Hi,
I dont know why you call it another new method?
I didnt read the whole trend, but the box instructions are pretty straight forward. DO NOT over dose the carbon .

I've seen a couple of methods. Most say don't use GFO.

My BioKit didn't come with instuctions. Do you know where I can read some instructions?? I'd love to stick to the original method before I start messing around with it.

Awesome looking tank BTW!!!!!!

Thank you,
I know prodibio has a web site , you can do a search and find it.
I do split by carbon dosing weekly instead of adding it all at once.
Ex. I have a 120 g. so one biodigest and one bioptum( instead of two) . The next week I add another bioptum.
I would not use AA or reefbooster if you have slime.
Frank

I still use GFO and GAC. I think its all about your own system and what you feel comfortable with.

I went to their site, found lots of info on the ampules but no info on using them.

Sounds like dosing biodigest bi weekly and two ampules of bioptum spaced apart from the dosing of biodigest is a pretty regular thing.

I'll try that.

And I'll put my GFO and GAC back online. I wished I hadn't cleaned them out earlier today.

Good luck, you have some nice equipment on your tank, do you have a pic?

Thanks. Now if I can get the corals to look as nice as the equipment! I'm a bit of a equipment junkie.

All with flash, no adjustment on point & shoot cheapo digi.
Tank looks ok, corals really need some help.

Thank you,
Its only set up since OCT , Broke down my old 120 because before I went full blown sps I had too many mushrooms, yellow polyps, and greenstar overgrowing everything.
My ATI power mod. will be in next week, Very excited about that.

Looking good, give it some time.
One product I really like and use it Tropic Marin Reef Actif.
Helped with colors a lot.http://translate.google.com/transla...actif&hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS324&sa=N&start=30

So the theory is to use the biodigest as a bacterial culture that fed by biotipm strips nutrients from your tank.

You then use feeding, AA's or reef booster to adjust nutrient levels for best coloration results.

Not terribly different from just plain carbon dosing although this method uses the bacteria. Why is that? To prevent unwanted bacteria from culturing in your tank? I think that was the issue with my "carbon dosing gone wrong".

I'm curious that bacteria needs to be constantly added. Bacteria as I know it are very good at mulitplying and dividing rapdily given proper fuel and environment.

I think the daily addition of bacteria is to keep the strains diverse. In other words to keep one type from completely overtaking the others and ending up with a monoculture.

Daily addition? You mean bi weekly with Prodibio?

Keep the strands diverse? You dose the same bacterial cultures week after week. How does the orginal strand change or go away?

I realize skimming will remove some, natural processes will remove some too. But bacteria are known for being quick reproducers.

I'm not saying constant addition is or isn't needed, I'm just curious as to what happens.

FWIW, I went and bought 30 vials of Bioptim & Bio digest today. I've seen some amazing tanks from Prodibio and I want to give it a try. I think bad strains of bacteria in my tank is my major issue right now.
