Prodibio

Water under the bridge. With the larger attention of the reef discusions board I think we will get much more in the way of results and more robust database of information. I would like to thank everyone who has participated in this thread and I am looking forward to its continuing success.

Thanks
Scott

well here's your bump ;)

I read through the thread and am still on the fence about which prodcts to use. Currently our nutrients are very low. I am adding .3ml of vodka daily and have noticed decrease in algea growth...but want better colors.

Has there been anyword about reefresh? or has that product been dumped since darkphreaks experience?

Also with the prodibio ampules, what is done if you do not dose the entire volume? is it possible to store it in another container?

for those of you using prodibio. If your system is below the water volume that the recommended dosages are set at (like mine which is 50g), how do you dose? I assume once the ampoule is opened it must be used?

I put my halfies in a plastic bag and put them in the frige. Dont know if that is the way it should be done ...But thats the way I do it.

Thanks
Scott

I believe that once the vial is open the culture must be used immediately. The reason for dosing every fifteen days is due to the bacteria cycle ending. Not only will the bacteria be dead, but it is likely to spoil, and if it sits in the fridge, then it will not even be fed a fuel to grow.

Next time I dose, it will be 1/2 vial biodigest for my 110g system. The other half vial will be bleached and discarded down a drain. The product does not cost that much. It is not worth risking teh introduction of spoiled strains.

I am curious if anyone that has experienced a negative effect has been saving and reusing the Prodibio products?

Kirsten, I read the thread. So, are your affected corals up high in the tank? Could they be a result of too much intense light or a lack of water flow? Do all the corals have the tulip polyps or just a few.

If no, then maybe the tulip tips are just an ambiguos sign of stress, whether it be due to light, water flow, kalkwasser dosing, or even some of the probiotic dosing. Maybe the bacteria after consumption are irritating the corals.

Hmm, I wonder if it is gas:D Been awhile since o-chem, but I believe the breakdown of alcohols releases co2 gas. From what I understand, the bacteria (from dosing BioDigest) is consumed by the coral polyps, then the vodka fuel feeds the bacteria. If a gas is produced from breakdown of CO2, then it seems that the tips could swell from the released and trapped gases within the polyp tissue.

Where are the chem geeks when we need them?

I must be very tired to think of this. Gassy corals. . . hehehe :crazy1:

Any thoughts?

Hey Scott.........my lights are intense. 400MH over a 20" tall tank and a 4" sandbed. :D

Here are a couple more threads about weird tissue.

All this seems to be getting a 'lil off topic but since it seems to be probiotic related the info is now here.

You may want to try some of the Zeo products for better colors before trying probiotics. Tropic Marin has come out with a 2 part system. K elements and A elements. You do your own AA...yes?

The only product that Prodibio says may be stored is ReefBooster and only for one week. You are supposed to stick the open end in a potato and store it in the fridge.

Robert is still using Reefresh at a lower dosage.

Maybe I will discontinue my methods of keeping halves. Seems that I maybe putting dead organic material back in the tank.

In other notes my short tentacle Plate is still spiraling downward. I don't know how to save it. I am hoping it rebounds soon. All of my other LPS and SPS is doing great. The Piorties is really starting to look good. I don't understand what is killing this coral. I upped the Saltwater Correct carbon in case of alleopathy. No diff. My stronium and mag are good so I don't think its that either....I am clueless.

Scott, I believe the only one you can save is ReefBooster, and that should be pressed into the side of a potato and stored in the fridge. Check with Rob at Robsreef.com to make sure I'm giving you accurate information.

Here is an update wit pictures of the reference corals. The tank is now 1 month 2 weeks old. I have been using Prodibio as described in the previous response for 2 weeks and one day.

General notes: I have noticed a few more zoo frags closing up. I believe this to be more of a problem with nusiance algae growing on them rather than the prodibio. I will likely dip and prune them in the next few days.

I also have seen problems with the Hydnophora. I fragged off three limbs that were approaching a nearby candycane coral. Since that, there has been some recession on a few sections of this coral. I'm not sure the cause. Maybe a bacterial infection. Anyone have ideas?

Pics:
Pink Zoos. I did not have these on the original reference list, but will add it now.

Blood Orange Zoos. These have been mostly closed up for about a week. They looked so great before. I think this is an algae issue.
PostProdibio2weeksZoosBloodOrange.jpg

Orange Montipora Digi. The color may be better in the tips where they have become pink. It looks like the tips all have growth buds too.

Full Tank shot. See the algae growth on the foam back wall?

Damicornis. No change.
PostProdibio2weeksDamicornis.jpg

Blastos, no change.

Acropora sp. The polyps have still not fully extended on this coral. However, I do notice a bit more greenish color to a few branches.

Blue Tort and friends. Much better PE on the blue tort. Freinds look the same.

Blue tort Close-up

Hydnophora. You can see the recessed branches on the bottom left and bottom right. Not sure what happened here. I did not frag anything over on the right side either.

Blue zoos. Been closed up for a couple of days.

hmm, this is the first time I have used photobucket. Does this happen alot? Oh crap, I think I moved the pics into a different folder. I will fix it later tonight

I dosed my 2nd set of Prodibio on Sat. and I must say that for the first 2 weeks, I'm impressed. I'm getting some great growth and coloration.

I am currently using 1 amp of Digest and 3 amps of Optim every 2 weeks along with Seachem AAs 2x per week.

I'll post some before and after shots when I get home.

Chris
