... Meso leaves some of his own comments/views here and there which help in some of the difficult articles. ...
Many thanks! I never know how I come across in the soulless internet medium ...
BTW ... solbby has posted in Mr. Borneman's MD forum about doing experiments which examine the characteristics and quantities of bacterial strains and macro-aggregates exported by skimmers ... should be some interesting stuff.
If you're talking about "The Bacteria Thread", here's its reference page link ...

... the info out there has everything you need for your own probiotic/zeo system...
I'm not sure about how useful the stuff I've posted is in terms of replicating the ZEOvit system ... too many variables.
But the research literature pertaining to nutrient assimilation & export (via "skimming" of bacterioplankton), and the increase in water clarity (via macro-aggregate suspension ... "mulm" in ZEOspeak) stuff related to a "probiotic" generation of an oligotrophic-like water column is all right there.
If I may presume ...
Simon ... I suspect you're going to be pleasantly surprised by what happens with a non-ZEOvit media reactor. The science is the science ... in terms of nutrient export, I see nothing "special" about either ZEObak or ZEOvit media (although I like the mix). Whether or not the presumed clinoptilotile performs some "molecular sieve" function in terms of allelopathic exudates is another issue.
So manufacturers are beginning to introduce zeoliths into their component mix, eh?
Hehe ... what a shock.
Next will be "reactors" ...
Vodka dosers ... when you get tired of the O2 depletion risks associated with ethyl alcohol, you may wish to consider amide-sugars as an alternative carbon source. You may also wish to factor in the role that Fe limitation plays with some chemolithotrophs. Certainly Korallenzucht, Prodibio, Ultra-Bio, and Polyplabs already have.
