wow kirsten that is crazy. I don't know if i would just stop we have seen that before but maybe cut back alot. it's crazy how they put the deadliest part in everything. I think that is why your tank didn't like the reefresh stuff. amino's in this and that and everything else. then on top of the prodibio stuff full of amino's. that is probably why iwan dosed less than recommended zeo amino's. I always dose my tank for actual measured gallons of the tank and do not add sump water volume so I really only dose for 225 gallons. may help may not but I think it's a little safer hopefully.
oh yeah kirsten that is exactly how the whole bottom of my sand bed looked and about 25% of my rock. I never removed or stired any of it. I let it run it's course just to see if it would. so far so good but i have cut way back like I said. I am so screwed up the only schedule I keep is prodibio and I added 1 extra bioptim this week just to see what would happen. 1 digest 2bioptim and 1 booster. I added 6 drops of cv today but only 2 yesterday and 2 reefresh plus. 3 ml of fuel. I am all over the road maybe I should go examine my tank to make sure nothing died.

wow kirsten that is crazy.

Yeah, when you have this crap in your tank I don't care how great the corals look.

I am all over the road maybe I should go examine my tank to make sure nothing died.

I felt/feel the same way! Its a hell of a ride. ;)

sure if you like watching and tinkering. there are no 2 tanks alike and my schedule just won't work for your tank and neither will kirsten's . you have to play with it starting low I think. some will disagree and that's cool just be prepared to mess up if you don't go slow. where in floridareefs?

hey kirsten zeo says there amino's can't be overdosed unless you have brown slime. well I think brown is close enough in color to make me think that is it.

Ran across another new product...www.xaqua.it

mesocosm has been posting some interesting aquaculture articles i suggest reading...the info out there has everything you need for your own probiotic/zeo system....

not sure if I am finding the right info or not. the link I got was to a whole site with hundreds of topics. not sure exactly which to look at.

Rob-

The link is correct...those are the links lol. They all overlap each other...I have read just about all of them whcih i think is necesary to digest the info. Meso leaves some of his own comments/views here and there which help in some of the difficult articles.

Kirsten-

Shoot us an e-mail and i'll send you the link.

This is an extremely cool thread! ...

Many thanks! I never know how I come across in the soulless internet medium ...

BTW ... solbby has posted in Mr. Borneman's MD forum about doing experiments which examine the characteristics and quantities of bacterial strains and macro-aggregates exported by skimmers ... should be some interesting stuff.

If you're talking about "The Bacteria Thread", here's its reference page link ... Post #17

I'm not sure about how useful the stuff I've posted is in terms of replicating the ZEOvit system ... too many variables.

But the research literature pertaining to nutrient assimilation & export (via "skimming" of bacterioplankton), and the increase in water clarity (via macro-aggregate suspension ... "mulm" in ZEOspeak) stuff related to a "probiotic" generation of an oligotrophic-like water column is all right there.

If I may presume ...

Simon ... I suspect you're going to be pleasantly surprised by what happens with a non-ZEOvit media reactor. The science is the science ... in terms of nutrient export, I see nothing "special" about either ZEObak or ZEOvit media (although I like the mix). Whether or not the presumed clinoptilotile performs some "molecular sieve" function in terms of allelopathic exudates is another issue.

So manufacturers are beginning to introduce zeoliths into their component mix, eh?

Hehe ... what a shock.

Next will be "reactors" ... ;)

Vodka dosers ... when you get tired of the O2 depletion risks associated with ethyl alcohol, you may wish to consider amide-sugars as an alternative carbon source. You may also wish to factor in the role that Fe limitation plays with some chemolithotrophs. Certainly Korallenzucht, Prodibio, Ultra-Bio, and Polyplabs already have.

Thanks for the link mesocosm and Flint&Eric.

Kirsten, I'm getting a little bit of that dark red cyano as well. I also have had a large outbreak of valonia in my tank recently too.

Time for an update on my system. I changed out my reflectors about 3 weeks ago (la3s) so everything is acclimated nicely now. I'm between my 4th and 5th dose of optim and digest. I'm starting to see a good lightening of colors within the last 2 weeks. At first I thought that it was the new reflectors, but now I believe it to be the end of stage 1. Should I add the booster this weekend or wait until my next scheduled dose of optim and digest?

How has the booster worked for everyone? I'm going to use 1.5 vials per week but the storage concerns me. Does the potato method work?

I've been adding Seachm Reefplus for the past 3 months and I've seen a good improvement in color. I add this 2x per week. Should I keep this up or buy some AAHC and CV instead? If I'm going to buy those products, should I go ahead and get the K-B and other Zeo supplements.

chris not to repeat but your troubles according to the zeo manual is most likely related to amino overdose. both bioptim and booster have amino acids. I would cut back on both and see what happens. just my opinion of course but my red cyano is all but gone. it kind of seems like the prodibio has valonia spores included. has everyone got a valonia problem using prodibio?
IWAN if you are following this do you have valonia? if you have had to control it how are you doing it?

Thanks Rob.

I haven't gotten a bad case of red cyano, but spots here and there. The valonia may be exploding b/c I've been trying to manually remove it and I may have popped a bubble or two.

I haven't added any booster yet, just the optim and digest.

How much did you cut back on your optim and booster?

Hey Chris,

If Reefplus is giving you a desirable result I would stick with that. Like Rob, I am cutting back on Booster and Bioptim. If I were you I would try 1 vial of Booster to begin with. It will be plenty. It will cloud your tank and the skimmer will stop working, then it might over flow so watch that.

Hey Mesocosm, thanks for the input. I read you over on the Zeo Board. Good info, written at a level that makes my brain have to work. That's a good thing. ;)
