Prodibio

The problem is that as your phosphates go away your calupa that your using will die and this will cause a chain reaction if you don't use a skimmer .

A skimmer is a must for this kind of system .

I know the pix suck but the amount of hair algea is now almost gone completely before I was weeding every other day and didnt seem like any dents being made now no hair and macro algea from sump is gone too..... corals are coloring up nicely too....

Isopropyl alcohol makes a lot of sense.

I disagree that you necessarilly need heavy skimming although I don't deny that it will likely make things easier.

I maintained over 20% of tank volume as refugium on a recent tank. The grape caulerpa in the fuge seriously out-competed my skimmer. When I began dosing vinegar with my kalk the caulerpa growth took off. My chemistry improved but I was actually removing less via the skimmer. Think providing the carbon source will help any autotrophic organism in the tank.

I firmly believe one of the reasons behind the brighter coloration in corals under this method is the fact that the simbiotic algae is simply more efficient with the provided food stuff. This allows the coral to devote less internal real estate towards the brown stuff and more towards the colorful. This is just an over simplified theory from my crack pot brain. But I have a pearl bubble that is particularly sensitive and responsive with regards to color. When I dose vinegar it tends towards a white. When I don't it develops a strong dirty olive green tint.

That makes a lot of sense. I checked out the Prodibio's site and there is nothing on there that says protein skimming is required. Actually I think this method would do better without the use of a skimmer. Also it really is impossible to eliminate phosphate completely from a reef aquarium. Most test kits just aren't capable of giving a reading below a certain point. I think Randy Holmes talks about this some and if I remember correctly the owner of Salifert said that he could make a test kit to test lower. Most people grow macro algae so that it keeps unwanted algae at bay. That is why I started growing caulpera. I may give this a try after seeing more test results from others and Melev.

This has definitely been an educational thread.

Has anyone noticed that Reefbooster totally messes with the surface tension of the water or something? I just dosed it for the first time, and immediately afterwards I noticed my overflows started gurgling and surging, my return pump started vibrating, and my calcium reactor feed pump started vibrating. Then when I turned my skimmer back on after 30 minutes, I noticed that the bubble density was much much lower, and there were a lot of big bubbles in the body. The water level of the skimmer is a good 3" lower than it was before I dosed, and I didn't touch anything. It's only been an hour since I dose, so it's no back to normal. Is this normal?

Trmiv,

The same thing happens in my system after dosing reef booster, it totaly knocks the water tension out of whack. I usually wait about 2 hours before turing my skimmer back on and with in about 4-5 hours it will start come back to normal. The first time I dosed and turned my skimmer on 30 min later, I thought something was wrong with my skimmer pump or my beckett. I'm not sure, but I think what ever they are using as a binder in the reefbooster is most likley the culprit, I'm guessing yeast based.

OK, I'm glad I'm not the only one. The skimmer still wasn't back to normal when I left this morning. I dosed around 11pm last night.

It will be fine by the time you get home today...mine was on the fritz for almost 12 hours on the first dose.

OK, my order has finally arrived after TWO MONTHS!!! I was also promised some free-bees which did not arrive. This whole experience at Rob'sReef has me thinking about buying elsewhere or using some other product. Does anyone have another purchase source?

I was gone for a week, so after some tank clean-up and a water change, I will take some pics of the before, and then start dosing.

Cheers,
Scott

I understand that delay was not the fault of Rob'sReef. I have dealt with Rob'sReef reef for 2 years and always found them to be honest and very knowlegeable. Send them an email and I am sure it will be cleared up. I bet they were just in a rush to get the product out after the delay.

You know the delays might be rooted in a new demand for the product. I hope that Rob's Reef can continue to stock Prodibio.

In other notes I lost me Tongue Coral the other day. RTN. I think that it might have been from the striped mushroom colony that has been threating it for some time now. I dont think this is Prodibio releated but since its the first loss in the tank since my dosing began I felt it noteworthy to mention.

Also I am going to post some pics of the progress that has been made. I am curious if anyone else has some recent pics that show some improvements since begining Prodibio.

I realize the delay was backorder. However, the only response from Rob regarding this was when I sent emails. There was never any curtousy email. Furthermore, after he told me the product was due in by Friday, I awaited the order. After two weeks, I sent him another email and saw a thread on his website that all orders shipped. Mine was not in that batch, because he overlooked it. He mailed it out after a fifth email.

If one wishes to keep customers, one should at very least, remember them.

He also promised some "extras" which I gently reminded him before he shipped, since others on his website claimed they were overlooked. Well, I did not recieve any freebees either.

Does anyone know of another source to buy the Prodibio?

Well if Robsreef is the importer than would it not be wise to buy from him instead of reseller. Charging your CC is a function of the net. IMO Robs is the best.

There may be three importers, Either I need to learn french or they need to learn English........ the translations are tedious :)
