Profilux/ PS Hyperion/ Mitras questions

Hi, I am a novice to this hobby. I have been researching and buying equipment to set up my 5' x 2' x 2.5' marine tank with a 36' x 18' x 18' sump (finished). I have already purchased a good quality Ca++ reactor, KalkWasser Reactor, Protein skimmer, Tunze Osm. RO/DI 7 stage, 36W UV, Pumps & vortex wave makers x 2 etc. After much reading I am ordering the Profilux 3.1N eX Ultimate set with an extra PAB bar, probe bath, Votech Controller module & leak interface & sensors. I already have a high quality 3 x MH and T-5 unit. I have, however, (before I use them) decided to sell these lights & buy an LED lighting system. This is the reason for this post. I have a few questions I would sincerely like asssistance from this forum, with if possible.

1. My tank has 2 x glass cross support braces 18 cm wide and 12 mm deep dividing the tank into thirds. they are proffessionally glued to the recessed glass strip running around the rim of the tank (I do not think the braces are constructed of tempered glass). I wondered what sort of light attenuation this is likely to cause, I know if the tank top was open I could possibly have used 2 x GHL Mitras units, but now I suspect I will need 3 (expensive :-( ). The Pacific Sun Hyperion 1.2 m unit (3 light sections) will cover the 3 open sections in the tank but will it penetrate (for coral) the 2.5 ft ? (I read it only penetrates 18" maintaining PAR readings)

2. Can the Profilux really control the PS unit (I read that PS says you can but need to use 4 slots on a PAB bar. GHL says you cannot and can't use special effects like thunderstorms. What is the PS controllability.

Thats probably enough questions to ask for now.

Thanks Guys

This question was answered by Pacific Sun, Poland on the PS sponsor forum. I am posting their reply here-

2) yes, Hyperions can work with GHL LED 4 PWM module - but you will need two modules (because each can control up to 4 channels). Of course - it is possible to "join" some channels (like all blue into one, red and orange as second etc) and you will can controll 4 channels by one GHL module - but I'm not sure that its good idea - when PS lamps offer separate control of 8 LED channels..

If you will need any additional information - please let me know!

Hi

the Mitras will have full control through the GHL software. The units are fully controllable and can be configured to run in various ways so you could have rolling cloud cover or storms or lightning effects.

But the true efficiency of the Mitras can be read here, there is not much that comes close to the Mitras users are reporting.

The Mitras has a superior coverage depth of 30"+ reported

I would start with two units, with the power fof the GHL unit and the special reflectors used I do not think you will see too much of an issue.
