Any time i use control manually any sockets via my laptop, and I go back to turn it back on or off, it has totally frozen.

Forcing me to restart my computer, every time.

what do i need to do to prevent this?

ive got 4.1 firmware, and the most recent software.

Yes me to, you have to restart the computer to get it to work. If you try and open it, it just never conects.

unplug the USB from the laptop, uninstall my USB driver from the Laptop, and reinstall a vista USB driver?

So no downloads from anything profilux correct?

Well I deleated off the software, re installed with the latest. And it is exactly the same, just comes up with failed to conect would you like to check the settings.

check the COM-number in these settings - before find this COM-number in the windows device manager (look for Prolific USB-Serial-converter or similar)

are we talking about PLM-USB or USB-RS232 converter?

It seems you you didn't see my previous question:
"check the COM-number in these settings - before find this COM-number in the windows device manager (look for Prolific USB-Serial-converter or similar)"

are we talking about PLM-USB or USB-RS232 converter?
Sorry did no see your Question, it has the PLM-USB, FROM ghl

Oppppps sorry yes the com- number is correct, as when you re-boot the computer you can connect but after a very short time if you go back into Profilux the error comes up. So the com number must be right and set correctly, it appears that it is not recognized after a period of time.

exactly, thats whats happening to me also.

Connects and works, but not for long.

The only way around it, that i have found is to quickly do what i need to and quite the program. Then when i need to turn something back on or whatever, i have to start the program, get it done, and quickly close out again.

I had some similar cases in the past, these were the reasons:

1.) windows assigned a new COM-number just for fun after some minutes -> solution was to assign a different COM-number in the device manager manually(and change this in ProfiLuxControl, too)
2.) in another case a hub was between PC and PLM-USB. This hub went to energy safe mode and disconnected! Solution: No hub or another hub.
