Aqua Digital Inc are proud to announce that the GHL ProfiLux has been chosen to control one of the largest tank builds seen on Reef Central, in fact probably the second biggest ever tank build.

The thread can be followed here

We will be working closely with Shawn from Reef and Forest Design to supply this huge system with the most cutting edge and one of the most reliable systems in aquatic control - the ProfiLux 3 with all the bells and whistles.

You can have a look at Shawns gallery here
www.reefandrainforestdesign.com

Furthermore the Aqua Digital team have invited Shawn to take up residence at the GHL booth at Macna where you can meet him and discuss this amazing build personally.

We are very proud that GHL ProfiLux has been chosen to be part of this great system and look forward to giving you updates as the system goes live.

Peter (AKA 9 Ball) will be pleased to keep you company at your both for MACNA, but I know you won't be lonely with all the interest your products garner... wait a minute, does that offer include loading and unloading your booth :) It will be great to have a base station at MACNA and we couldn't have had a better offer or host. All are welcome to stop by and say hi.

The Profilux 3 was a no-brainer for Peter's 1350 gallon reef. There are some bigger tanks out there but very few that are as elaborate as Peter's. Michael at Aqua-Digital has his work cut out for him helping us customize the control system, but I think we can take it to new levels of excellence and all learn from the experience.

We are doing our last minute planning and running around in hopes to have some pics of the controller in action for MACNA. I can't go too much into details at this point because I honestly don't know what we will end up with :) however, we will be controlling the massive reef tank and three separate quarantine, hospital, and frag systems all on one controller. Our most ambitious task is to implement a large remote touchscreen for the system.

The whole build has been exciting to watch and eventually participate in, but the automation is where it all comes together. I don't think the Aqua-Digital crew realize what they have gotten themselves into :)

If you like big tank builds, you'll love this 19,000 gallon outdoor reef tank in the United Arab Emirates (naturally). Of course it is controlled by a GHL Profilux 3 controller. http://www.reefcentral.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1783997&page=33

From the amount of people expected at the booth I think we should have opted for a double now, I think we will have people spilling out into the arena :)

I am sure Matthias will be very much looking forward to talking about this system, and the Aqua Digital team that are present will be honoured with peters presence.

So now today I start developing your system requirements, bring on the strong coffee someone! :)

Good to see you are up and at it bright and early. I hope you were able to sleep last night with my controller wish list. I was kidding about the mute button for my wife BTW :)

18 month old that has learnt to walk has us up at 4.30am :(

Just going through record amount of emails in one night (97) and will then get cracking.

Why does Tim Hortons not do home delivery! :( I need a gallon of their finest coffee right now. Oh and throw in a choc chip muffin too!

ProfiLux sponsored by Tim'ies now there is an idea!

 3Kw heater I hope thats 220V!!

more by email later just doing initial scan.

Big heaters are a tough one. They go up in price exponentially when they get north of 1,000 watts. Three 1,000 watt heaters are more cost effective, have better heat spread, and allow for redundancy so if one dies you are still covered. Six 500 watt heaters is inviting the law of averages to introduce failure and it's too many plugs and probes to manage cleanly.

The heaters may never come on, but nobody wants to be known as the guy who said "who needs heaters" when things get cold. We have a dedicated air conditioner, a well vented canopy, cool-running lights (we hope), an air exchanger (HRV), cool running DC pumps, we're in a cool basement, and in cold (Canadian) climate. I would bet the heaters come on before the 1 HP chiller does. We plan to run the tank between 81-82˚F. The sheer size of the system holds a lot o thermal mass so day/night temperature shifts should be minimal.

...and yes we have 220V available. We haven't settled on a vendor for the titanium heater(s) yet. There really isn't much out there to choose from. Aquanetics used to have nice titanium inline heaters but they are out of business. Most of the inline heaters on the market are for pond use and contain metallic parts or have weak seals. I'm happy with three (reliable) generic titanium heaters like JBJ or Aqua-Medic.The thermostat is always the weak link in aquarium heaters. As long as the Profilux controller controller is on watch my only concern is electrocution :hmm3:

BTW we have one ground probe. Do you carry these as well? We need three more for the fish & coral systems and maybe one for the display tank itself (apart form the one for the sump).

OK so 3 x 1,000w spread over the circuit design works.

1,000w / 110 = 9amps so thats fine as long as each heater is on a seperate circuit. However opting for 220V heaters would cost less to run and not as many circuits if run off a 20amp line.

If you can avoid 220v you will make my life a whole stack happier, but I think the chiller is looking at the need for 220V.

Gorunding probes - No but all GHL probe inputs are galvonically isolated.

More by email within the hour ;)

Is this going to turn into a build thread for Peter's controller design? (That would be awesome!)
I've been reading his build tread and it is absolutely amazing, not to mention the thread is filled with great information.

Just curious can you use both 110V and 220V powerbars/ PAB on the same P3?
I don't see any of the 220V for sale on the normal web sites.

When I build my new tank in a few years I want mostly 220V with the heavy appliances (pumps, chillers, lights if I go MH). It would be nice to have a way to control these through the P3.
I'm sure most people with large tanks want some 220V control.

This would be up to Shawn to run if he so choses, but I will ask him.

Yes the ProfiLux can run 110V and 220V simultaniously the power bars for 220V are german or UK style power socket however and special order.

I am in "loose" discussion with GHL about making a 220V switchable juntion box, this is more for the swimming pool controller market I have my eyes on, but if this was to come off as a production component then it of course could be added to the aquarium line of acessories. But this is not even on the drawing board just loose talk right now.

So for now to utilise 220V you need to special order a Euro power bar, approx 4-5 week delivery time.
