Project 150 gallon had officially started

thanks john,as you can see i have alot of work ahead of me.this weekend should be a madhouse for me.id like to get the 150 on the stand, fill my 37 and move corals into it,start cooking the liverock, and tear down the 90.i dont know if i can do it all but im going to try.

Chris-

Congrats on the new tank I looked at this about a month back at johns and liked the tank then. Keep up the great work and know that it will be such a payback in the end when its done! Im looking forward to seeing everything come together in the end and we will have to compare stories for the builds. Let me know what you think of your OM 4 way as I have been considering placing 2 on my system somewhere in the mix of things.

Regards
Charles-

hey charles, thanks for the compliments.i dont have a real OM,i made my own at work and i love it.i do want to make a few more mods to it before i add it onto my new tank but it works fine overall.im still waiting to see some pics of your build,i saw you updated your thread but no pics.....shame shame......lol

Hey Chris, those plastic holding tanks for your corals- are they food safe or just regular storage bins? I was thinking of making a DIY Fuge and using one of those plastic bins but wasn't sure if they were okay to use. Any thoughts on this since you are already using/implementing them?

Or should I just get an acrylic fuge made to fit under my stand?

Thoughts, comments....

thanks, Chris

the holding tank i got is made from polypropylene.it is 100% safe to use in our reefs as it doesnt leach out any chemicals.i may be making new sumps out of polypro and getting away from acrylic sumps.

i got it from target for $12,i dont know if id trust them long term as a sump or fuge, they are kind of thin.FYI just look on the bottom of any plastic tank and there is a recycling code, look for the code to say PP.

i got my coral storage hooked up to the sump and its running.i moved over alot of corals and will start to pull rock out tomorrow.there is one modded mj1200 plus the return pump(for the coral storage)this should be enough flow for the sps.

ok.......i ordered my doors today(thanks for the link mike) and am going to get 2 sheets of oak plywood to skin out the stand.i might get some 1x2s and begin framing out the hood, not sure yet.i still need to find doors for the hood but im going to call the place i ordered from and see if they will make the size i need.

some closed loop plumbing pics.i still need to connect the inlet tomorrow after i grab another 90 degree fitting.i am going to make a brand new OM clone so i ordered new magnets and started machining the new parts needed.

the two unions (quick release) just before the "T" on the closed loop inlet might be useless without ball valves above them. Just my two cents, wish I had put more valves in my tank when setting it up. Looks good and good luck!
