Project 150 gallon had officially started

I have 900watts (aprox) with 3 120mm fans in the hood and a 10inch fan in the stand, it stays at 80. If I forget to turn the fans off at night the tank will be at 76 in the morning.

Im evaporating about 3 gals a day (unless I forget to turn off the fans)

you have the icecp fans correct?are they quiet enough for you?what about the 10" fan and noise? i dont mind 3 gallons a day evaporation,i plan on making a 15-20 gallon ATO so that should last at least a few days without refilling.

The IC fans are the quietest followed by the Vantec Thermoflow (both 2 speed ) and then the Vantec Stealth (1 speed), but the stealth does not produce the same cfm as the others.

I used the Vantec Thermoflow fans, almost the same as the IC fan but only $11, plus power supply.

The dart makes more noise than the 120mm fan, but the 10 inch fan makes about the same amount as the dart.

i think i will try and get some of those vantec 2 speed fans.the 10" fan you have,is it just a regular house fan?

This is the best deal I have found on them http://www.xpcgear.com/tf12025.html

The 10" is just from the dollar store. Im sure there are quieter ones out there but this one was cheap and it just sits over my sump covered in salt creap most of the time.

For fans I just went on ebay and got 5 fans for like 12 bucks 100cfm and I don't hear the things ever also there is a guy on ebay who sells the AC/DC power adapters with a molex connection that will hook right into the computer fan connector instead of splicing and wire nutting the wires together.

right now the fans on my 90g are the loudest thing on the tank.they move alot of air but arent the quietest fans.

Im running 3 fans on a 6 dollar wall wart.
You can get the molex connectors and an extension harness for a few bucks and not worry about the mess

well i have my storage pen for my fish and corals.so now i can cook off my liverock, ill start tearing down the 90 and moving stuff over this week.mike the link to the doors doesnt work for me.greg does the website you linked earlier have the connectors and harness?

thanks for the link mike,i found what i need for $17.50 per door for 21"x25".so what should i cover the stand with so thats its ready to stain?and how should i attach the panels to the frame so i dont have screws or nails showing?

You can get plywood with a veneer of whatever wood the doors are made of, so everything will match after stained. Usually some kind of corner trim is used with finish nails to cover the plywood attachment, or you can use finish nails to attach the plywood. The finish nail holes can be hidden with putty tinted with stain.

Greg,

Can you give more info on the wall wart? Where did you buy it? I am looking at wiring 3 fans myself.

Thanks

I just took a fan into this electronics shop and said I needed a wall wart to drive 3 the guy handed me one. 12 volt and 1300ma.....works great and only cost a few bucks.

Chris,
I just saw this post, awesome job.

I dont think their is a Harbor Freight in the area, but they have the "wall wart" for about $4. I will be near one on thursday when I have to go do a truck demo, if you want one I can get it for you from the store in Lakeland. As for fans I just bought 4 Vantec Stealths, single speed. They are really quite. I have the two fans, one on each side of the canopy blowing in, and two between the MH reflectors sucking the air out. I haven't finished wiring my canopy but I dont think I will need a chiller. I will have 2 250 watt MH and 3 110 VHOS, for a total of 830 watts over a 90.

Chris if you need any help with the stand I can be of assistance after work hours, 5pm.
