Promoting Aquariums and Conservation Across the Country on Live TV

On Tuesday February 26th, I was honored to be an invited guest on NBC's "In the Loop with iVillage" representing the entire staff of Drs. Foster and Smith/LiveAquaria, as well as all of the aquarium enthusiasts here on RC promoting the aquarium hobby and reef conservation on a live television.

"In The Loop with iVillage" is hosted by Bill Rancic television personality and season-one “Apprentice” winner, and on Tuesday was co-hosed by Wanda Goldberg, wife of the WWF Wrestling star Bill Goldberg. The show airs at 12:00 EST on NBC in most major networks across the country, and is broadcasted from NBC towers in downtown Chicago.

It was a pleasure to be able to share with viewers across the country that may have never experienced the beauty and educational benefits of owning and caring for an aquarium, what all of us here on RC enjoy so much and are so passionate about. Promoting aquariums, aquacultured corals and fish in a positive way will hopefully encourage people who may have never thought about setting up an aquarium to do some research, and see if the hobby is for them.

One of the fun parts of taping the "Aquariums 101" segment is when the host surprised me with a "pop quiz," holding up cue cards of different corals to identify - well, mostly corals! The last was a toughie. If you'd like to check out the clip, please visit:

I want to publicly thank Kevin Kohen for his lifelong efforts and commitment to the aquarium industry.

From a young man in Ohio with an interest in fish and coral he has emerged as the most public figure speaking on behalf of the aquarium trade. Kevin defends and represents the aquarist and creates the positive image the hobby needs. Kevin is not about the industry, he is about you, the hobbyist,---- he speaks for your interests and behalf.

A staunch believer in sustainability and aquaculture, Kevin designed and oversees the very best aquaculture facility in the United States. Anyone who has seen his facility, or met Kevin, knows what I mean. His honesty and integrity have emerged as an example for all to follow, the national media has recognized that, along with his aquarium expertise.

Thank you Kevin for teaching me all that I know about aquatics. I am no expert but with you and your staff by my side, I do not need to be. We all enjoy your leadership and giving attitude to the aquarium trade and hobby.

I also wanted to mention that Kevin has filmed an actual aquarium show on the television series " Faithful Friends ".

"Faithful Friends" is a Drs. Foster and Smith production which features 13 segments in 2008, available in an estimated 70 million households. The series is also set to air on nationally acclaimed Animal Planet and will feature Kevin Kohen promoting the Aquarium hobby.

"Faithful Friends" is hosted by stuntwomen Wanda Goldberg. Wanda is wife of NFL and WWF champ Bill Goldberg. Bill is one of the voices for our animated caricatures as is Jeff Gordon of NASCAR. The shows co-host is Electra Mustaine, daughter of Dave Mustaine, guitarist for the band Megadeth.

The goal of the show is to promote proper animal care including fish and coral. In the series Kevin discusses the merits of the aquarium hobby as well as aquaculture and the ocean's resources.

Both "Faithful Friends" and NBC's " In the Loop " segment are really the first attempt at bringing national awareness to the merits of the aquarium hobby. We feel the hobby is in jeopardy if the national media does not understand that we, as well as the hobbyist, promotes sustainability and aquaculture.
