you came up here asking a question then you already answered it yourself.

I don't believe it can be done successfully in the long term. To my knowledge, they don't last more than a few months after being cut. Also, if you put a 24 inch anemone in a 20 gallon tank, it won't end well for anybody. It may work for a few months while it's small, but in time it will literally fill the tank.

I agree with this 100%. The only two anemones that spilt naturally are the bta's and very very rarely a ritteri (Magnificant). Only the bta is know to have decent survival rates when cut. Ritteri have to split naturally. Gigs and Haddoni and other anemones don't split they reproduce sexually and 99% of the time will die from stress or infection if cut. And thats way too small of a tank. I have my ritteri in a 90g and it hast one half the tank to itself the gig will get even bigger.

Op,
If you can keep your Gigantea alive, then you can consider this. I hope you don't because you will surely end up with a dead Gigantea (or two dead haves)

bjledbetter, actually mags have been successfully fragged on multiple occasions. I personally wouldn't on one of mine, I'd be too afraid to.

They will circle themselves around and appear to heal, but for the most part they don't survive very long after the frag, maybe a year if they don't die in the first month.
They are difficult enough to keep alive for over a year without fragging them.

A 20 gal tank is a bit small and if your gig is healthy, it will outgrow it in a short time. It can get to 12"-18" pretty easy, and that would be too big for your 20 gal.

If it stays healthy, I am sure you would be able to find someone in your area willing to take it off your hands if you decide you don't want to upgrade to a larger tank.

I think you should have wrote "....ive heard people....." instead of "....ive seen people...."
I have heard but not seen this happen. However, when asked for reasonable documentation like pictures before and after, they cannot produce it. I have not even seen pictures of two health Gigantea that may possibly be clones from people who claim that they did this.

I keep a Gigantea in a 30 g cube for 6 months under 150 W DE MH. It is outgrow this tank even without direct feeding the last 3 months. In the very near future it it going to a 100 g cube.
