Protein Skimmer and TDS Levels

Just starting a new tank. What brand of protein skimmer is best or what should I look for in a skimmer. Also I am setting up an RO / DI system for refilling my system. What TDS levels do I need to look for?

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Ideally 0 tds is best. Mine stays at 0 untill the DI resin wears out, then it usually spikes to 3 or so. Is the skimmer for the 225gal? I would reccomend an ASM or Deltec if you got the dough.

TDS levels

TDS levels

My RO/DI setup is waiting on a part to replace one broken during shipping. Till then I am buying water. Some shows 1.04 another store shows 1.98. Is that really bad for a new tank during setup?

What kind of meter are you using that shows decimals? There is only one that I would trust down to those levels and thats a HM Digital COM-100 calibrated in low range. Are you sure you are not measuring 104 and 198 TDS?

You are right!!!

You are right!!!

It is a Milwaukee CD97. You are right. My mistake. So I take it that is not good?

Thanks

No thats not good. What is the Tap Water TDS in those two locations? Sounds to me like they are not doing much treatment at all or they are not keeping their storage vessel clean or both.

Protein Skimmer Issue

Protein Skimmer Issue

Well that solves my TDS issue. As far as a protein skimmer, why is everyone having to modify their skimmers to get adequate performance? Doesn't anyone make a skimmer that works as it should out of the box? I'm just afraid I'll buy a skimmer and screw it up trying to modify it and still have nothing. Any thoughts are welcomed.
