Protein Skimmer & Cyano Remover ?

I had some Cyano in my tank. I used the stuff by Blue Life.
Turned off protein skimmer.
After a few days when cyano dissipated I did a 25 gal water change.
I have a 125 gal tank and it called for 25 % so I was a little short from the instructions.
Anyway I left my skimmer off for around the last 2 weeks.
When I turned it on today it is producing a foam/liquid that actually is knocking the top off the cup.

Somebody told me they would just pull the cup from their skimmer and let it run until it cleaned up, dumping the water/ foam right back into the sump.

Anybody else ever do this?
If ok great.
If not what have others done?

I used chemiclean once before and I dumped the water the cup collected. I dumped like 10 cups, but it eventually stopped overflowing then.

I just did chemiclean a few months ago, just take off your cup, let it overflow into the tank, and don't feed any air into your skimmer... Eventually, for me it was about a day but it settled down.

I just finished 2 treatments of chemiclean a week apart. My Cyno problem was wall to wall. I left both doses in for 72 hrs then did 20% water changes. There was still some Cyno left but it has died now. It's a relatively new tank approx 1 year, still have some grn diatoms to clear out.
The instructions for chemiclean call for the skimmer but adjusted so it doesn't skim(air off or valved down. Some really nasty stuff will the skimmate be so ya doesn't want it to go back into the tank, arrr................Air stone or 2 a must.
