Protein skimmer problems

Hello everyone,

I set up my 120 gallon tank last week. I have my skimmer set up to be in 8' of water like recommended. Every time I turn it on it goes straight to the top and over flows. I even raised it to as far as sitting just above the water inlet and it is still happening. The water is crystal clear in the display with ZERO air bubbles.

The only thing I can think of is I used two brand new filter socks that I only pre rinsed for about 5 min each... I would think that would be gone by now being 5 days later....

I def want to get my skimmer up and running, please help! lol

Tank water was RODI, temp 77.8, PH 8.32, Salinity 1.025, DKH 13, Calcium 410 Zero nitrate, less then 5 ammonia

thanks

If your skimmer brand new, keep the output wide open for a week or so. Even after a week, there will not be much stuff for the skimmer to skim. Close the output until the bubbles are below the neck.

^^yep.. and part of it could still be from the socks,etc...
But outlet wide open to start and adjust as needed..

I have the outlet wide open as well and it still does it :headwally:

Its my old skimmer but i totally cleaned it out and just pulled it out of storage so its "Like New".... It worked great in my old tank.... Just any water level it blows its top...

Attach a valve to restrict air flow?

I did that when I dosed red slime remover. Stuff makes your skimmer go nuts when you turn it back on, restricted airflow for the first ~12 hours so it had a more normal skim, then guessing it skimmed out whatever was causing it to be crazy because it settled down.

it made it worse... Could anything be wrong with the water?
