Currently treating with Kick Ich....
all carbon pads are taken out....
just wondering if it would be wise to keep the protein skimmer on or off?
its been off but our ammonia levels are a bit high....

well the skimmer would actually remove the treatment, and should remain off. Id do some smaller water changes and keep up with the treatment. IMO before i would have went to chemicals i might have tried a hypo salinity enviroment. If your treating with copper chemicals im assuming you have no corals or inverts anyways so it shouldnt have mattered. The lower salinity reduces the amount of work the fish has to go through in like gas exchange, etc and kills off the parasite in all stages.

What does the insturctions say on the bottle? Also, have you called their customer service # and asked? Some meds you can run your skimmer with. I used ICh attack and ran my skimmer with no problems.

it is recommended to keep your skimmer running with cupramine, don't know about kick ich but like Kingwood said depends on the product... call and find out!

I am treating with Kick Ich also. The container says that the skimmer can reduce effectiveness of the medicine. I think I need to turn mine off which doesnt excite me at all...

Why are you having any ammonia?

Does Kick-ich affect nitrification bacteria?
