ok so i have a 135 gallon tank and it has the sump built on to the back of the tank. its not real big its only bout 5 inches wide prolly about a foot tall anyone know of a skimmer this small that would fit in the back compartment its acrylic and the top holes are kinda in the middle so doubt a hob protein skimmer will work

Sounds like most hob skimmers will not be big enough and you can't get a large enough one in the sump area. I would try and re-plumb but pictures might help some make suggestions.

i cant re plumb the tank there are slits in the top of the tank so that it drains into the back area of the sump thats on the back lol

so i cant really get a picture of it since its on the back of the tank but it kinda resembles that, its just shorter goes up bout quarter of the tank, and alot longer its 6 ft long just as long as the tank, and its bout 5 inches wide

1 point for the weirdest set up I've seen so far lol. what about an external skimmer that sits on top of the sump instead of in it?

scratch that last post i just figured out what you had going on there a little better. I remember when I first got into this hobby seeing some box style skimmers that where pretty narrow. Think tunze nano but bigger.

Lol I seen some box skimmers but dont know if it will skim enough for 135 gallons

Alot of people here would disagree but, depending on the corals you plan to keep, I would scrap the skimmer and go solely with and algae scrubber. Much more compact and for softies and lps, IMO can't be beat. Just a thought and a different concept.

the dimensions vary but most are bout 12 inches long x 5 inches wide well they are all like 5 inches wide but compartments length is bout 12 inches

I agree one of the Reef Octopus hang ons might be something to look at. I ran a very small on in sump for a while and Liked it. I have a RO1000INT right now and I love that bubble blaster pump.

would the hang on part be wide enough to hang on the tank and work correctly thats wat im worried bout the tanks top is closed with 2 openings in the middle of the tank, so the lip is wider then the glass tanks, and not sure if the skimmer holder thing that hangs on the tank would fit over the lip?

If it was me I'd drill a hole in the bottom of that thing & use a standard sump below the tank. I just see it as a pia when trying to maintain it.

In the long run your not going to be happy with two hang on back skimmers & trying to access that sump isn't going to be fun.

Hang on back sumps are fine for smaller tanks but for a 135g tank it's not practical.
