Protein Skimmer

With all the variety out there I don't know where to begin to look. My tank and system hold somewhere in the 400 gallon range. So I would want a skimmer that can handle at the very least that. I would prefer it to be external since I have the room for it in the basement. IMO makes cleaning and servicing easier. But if the price is right or it performs better I also have the room in my sump.

So what are some of the skimmers everyone recommends? Does anyone have something used for sale? I'm open to all suggestions.

This may spark some controversy. However, I have tried several different types from pin wheel to bubble plates etc.. I have an external H&S German made skimmer which works great but the best by far is the Lifereef protein skimmer I am using a svs-30 for my system which is approx. 365 gals. It just works. The best I have tried so far. Greg

I also have to say Lifereef skimmer. I am running a 36 inch external. By far the skimmer I like the best.

I'll also endorse Lifereef skimmers. I have two that I bought used at great savings over new. So if you're patient, Will, watch the For Sale forums for a good bargain.

I have to admit that I can't be impartial, Geo is my friend, and he works here, as well.

I sold my Lifereef skimmer that I was happy with when GEO offered to build me a beckett injection skimmer.
Quality equipment to say the very least Geosreef.com

Thanks for all the input guys. I sent Lifereef an email to inquire about the skimmer they would recommend for me. They got back very quickly. Very helpful and answered all my questions. Im waiting to sell one of my cars, then I will have some extra cash and will make my final decision. Ive also been looking at the bubble king supermarin250. But I think I like the lifereef setup, at least the idea of how it works.

I have a 10 year old Deltec AP600 that has been in continuos duty for as long as I have had it. The pump/impeller has been replaced once but other than that it has been a great product. I have never felt the need to change it out.
