protein skimmers

what are you guys running on your tanks?
I have a 210g that I have been using a kent nautilus TE on and it has never produced very well and now I guess is time for an upgrade.

oh and I only have 24" in height under the stand and yes I am on a budget

msx 300 if you have a space in your sump its only 24" high

250 should be fine.
i plan to keep my msx 300 after i upgrade to 400 /550 gallon .i works great and its chinese not canadian a lot less with same pump and design

I have been reading that the pumps that they run are not very reliable

The sicce psk2500 that is run on the msx isn't bad by any means ( it adds a ton of air at very low wattage) it just has it's quirks that takes some trial and error. I have nothing but good things to say about my swc 250 extreme.

i run the MSX 160 and love it, great skimmer.
Have you looked at the cone MSX skimmer, i'm not sure on the height.

not really true anymore, still the same factory but the bodies are different, the octos have a conical transition the MSX/SWC design is unchanged only for the extremes though.


if i were you i would look at
ATB 1050 V1.5
SWC/MSX 250A cone
MSX 300A

I see that it uses one pump instead of two. would performance be enhanced enough to say that it is worth it? gonna have to measure the space in my sump

The Askoll is considered a better pump than the Sicce pump. It has more air pull than two Sicces. So there is a performance improvement. It is also more reliable on start up. Sicce's are still good pumps compared to some of the other pumps used on skimmers, and are a good option. Many feel the Askoll is a better way to go than two sicce's, if you have the money for the upgrade. I would only use the Askoll, having used both.

Also the start up problems associated with Sicce's are when using the mesh mod. When using the pinwheel, there doesn't seem to be the same problem.
