Providing a "spot" for haddoni

Ok guys - further to a previous thread, I am planning to add a Stichodactyla haddoni to my 8x2x2 tank to host a new pair of clarkii clowns that I'll be getting. I've read the FAQ's etc. and was wondering if anyone can offer species specific advice on how to provide a nice "spot" to locate the animal in teh hopes it will like where it is put, and say there. I know this is hit and miss, but if I can increase my chances.......

Do they like random flow, or steady flow? I have read "moderate" but what about flow pattern.

I have read they like to live in the sand, not on the rocks, so that will put him in the front half of teh tank automatically.

Lighting..... intense or less so..... I have 250W SE MH's - I could raise or lower them in the specific area to increase / decrease intensity.

Any other tips?

Many thanks,

Matt

Random flown is always better for anemones.

your lights sound fine if the anemone is healthy you should have no problems, if it is not healthy the light is only part of what could kill it.

Put a moonlight on it at night i think it keeps fish from wandering close at night and being eaten.

Mine seem to like the sand bed/rock interface. They seem to like to have their foot buried under the rocks ( if not attached to the underside of the rock )

IME, they prefer random flow -- all my powerheads are on a wavemaker.

Currently I have mine under 2*250 DE ( + 2*54 T5 ), but I keep my tan/yellow one under PCs for many years.

When you are putting it into the tank, I suggest wearing a pair of cloves. The sting isn't too bad, but they are so darn sticky that it is hard to get them off your hand, the gloves seem to help.

Here is an older picture of mine. (( the BTA on the right side was sold, and the yellow/tan haddoni is now on the left side of the "valley" since I redid the right side of the tank ))

Thanks GSM guy.

Todd - nice pic - thanks for the reply - and great looking tank too by the way!

How much sand do you guys keep yours in? I've only got about an inch in my tank (caribsea sugar fine aragamax) - but I am adding an extra bag (30lbs) to replenish that which has been lost / disolved.... so I could beef up the bed and retain it a bit in the areas I hope the animal to settle in.......

THanks,

Matt

Matt, For a haddoni i would say 3+ inches sandbed ,

the other option would be to put it in a container like a "Tupperware" and fill that with sand. it could then be moved if you need to and the container can be hidden with a couple rocks or something to blend in.

excellent idea GSM Guy - I think I'll do something like that..... if the anemone will stay it it :)

Quite a few people use similar things, Shutiny in her 3,600 g anemone tank uses white china bowls.
