Psk -1000 not up to part.

I just upgraded my skimmer pump from a psk -2500 to a psk -1000, the old pump I could keep water level at middle neck and get good skimmate. With the new pump I have to put it about two inches from top of cup to get sufficient skimmate. The new pump was actually part of a kit to upgrade a bm-200 which is a space saver skimmer. So the volute is extremely long

I have a hard time believing this could be the problem but I'm up for any explanation.

My skimmer is an older reef octopus pro 250 skimmer with an 8 inch body.

Any of you guys have an idea what my prob could be?

Did you clean the skimmer in anyway during the replacement?.. They do require time to "break-in" after cleaning. A "Clean" neck is just too slippery and the foam won't crawl up like it should.

You have changed the air/water balance for the skimmer, the venturi is not optimized for the psk1000, which is a significantly stronger pump. It took me several tries before I found the correct sized venturi for my psk1000 on a Vertex 8" body.

It has been long enough I do not remember for sure, but I think it was the one that came with the Vertex stock pump. Your body and neck are different from mine so the same one, or size may not work. Too small of an opening in the front of the Venturi will cause too little water and too much air, too large does the opposite, so in order to keep the balance correct the right size Venturi is a must, otherwise performance suffers.
