PTSD treatment tank

But you don't know if it is your source water that has changed, or your RO/DI that has failed you. Start at the beginning. Test, test, test before drawing conclusions.

Well I was feeling half way good today so I thought I would run some tests. I was thinking that my PO4 was way out of wack but it came up as .02ppm on my hanna. The one that got me is nitrate at 60ppm. Now that is just crazy high.

I had that problem at the beginning of my new setup. I am dosing white vinegar instead. I started at about 100 mls and increased it weekly and I am at about 300+ mls with nitrates hanging between 1 - 2 ppms.

Good Luck.

I have a source where I can get vodka for next to nothing so that is why I went with it. I plan on doing a water change later today so I will take some before and after tests to see how much it has dropped since starting and how much it drops from the water change. Since I am only on day 3 of dosing I'm not expecting any change but who knows.

On a side not this water change should be fun doing it one armed. I had surgery number four not even a week ago on my shoulder so this should be fun and take me a few hours to do where it normally only takes me about 20 minutes to do 30 gallons.

This goes out to anyone that doses vodka. How long does it take until you can start seeing a difference both by look and by testing my nitrate and PO4?

PTSD treatment tank

Atleast a month if you stick with the same routine. I started white vinegar with my nitrates were around 25-30 ppms and phosphates were at .55. Month later they were all cut in half and in an additional two weeks my nitrates were hovering around 1-2 ppms and phosphates were .12.

Yeah my nitrates are still through the roof. As for sticking to it now that's no problem. I have it set up on a doser that does it for me. I just drilled a hole in the cap of the bottle ran the hose in it. But tomorrow I will have to bump it up to the next amount. I just have to remember what day I need to increase it. One small change I have see so far is I don't have to wipe my glass everyday. It can go a couple of days between it. I guess its in the starting stages of working.

I am about ready to change the name of my tank from the PTSD treatment tank to the tank of death. Doing 30 gallon a week water changes and dosing vodka my nitrates are still through the roof. I have cut back on the feeding skimmed wet and nothing. It has been so bad most of my SPS have died due to this. This is just driving me nuts watching everything just die off. I am almost about ready to break it down and start it back over.

Ok question of questions to ask. Has anyone seen like a chunk of metal in their rock before. I am still having problems with my tank and everything dying in it. But I have one rock that always has this rust color dust on it. I can wipe it away and by the next day its back. I have been thinking about pulling that rock out and maybe breaking it apart to see if it might have something in it. What do you think about something like that happening?

I have been doing vodka for almost two months now. My PO4 is now sitting at 0.01 and my No3 is who knows. I have to get a new test kit this weekend when I get paid. I was puppy sitting and with out thinking about putting it away it found a new chew toy. I am up to 8 ml of vodka as of three weeks ago. But after I lost my test kit I didn't bump it up. I have been just keeping it. But as of three weeks ago it was in the 20ppm off the top of my head. I should be writing things like this down.

When I was stationed in Okinawa I had collected some live rock on the shore and found a piece of rock that actually had a Coke can imbeded into the rock. Basically various growth (Coraline et.) had grown over it and had made it become part of the rock.

Well I got my new test kit and ran some tests last night. I am happy to say that after the last two months my tank is starting to look better. I went from 80+ on my nitrates to 25ppm on last nights test. I will be doing another water change today and I will retest after that to see what its sitting at. Its funny how everyone says that you have to keep your water just right to keep anemones alive. Well this entire time my tank has gone haywire my gig has just been loving it and has almost doubled in size. Also my clam has put on almost a 1/4" on new growth on the shell. But I have lost all of my SPS. I can see some of my LPS that were going down hill are starting to come back and look better. I will just keep on doing what I am doing and it will get there in time I hope.

Nothing worst then having your return pump die off on you. Now I am on the hunt for a replacement one for it. I had the Diablo DC from Reef Octopus that has a 2 year warranty on it and it didn't even last a year. Next month would have made it a year. I am waiting to hear back from the warranty department to hear what they have to say. Well time to try and find a replacement for now. But quick question can I leave my powerheads running and move my heater into my main tank until I find one and get it hooked up. How long can I leave it like that if they are going to replace it?
