Public Safety Power Shutoff

So anyone work for PG&E and have a better answer than the canned generalization I'm seeing on the news and in the local public service announcements?

Is PG&E killing all our tanks on Wednesday?

All they can do is the generalized warning because it all depends on what the weather turns out to be. This seems to be the new norm for California after the wildfires 2 years ago. At the last planned outages we didn't get affected in Santa Rosa but some further north did later in the day. We are all just going to have to see what mother nature decides for us.

Saw an alert yesterday from SJ City Councilwoman saying Evergreen area in San Jose will be affected...hope this doesnt happen!

Our was out for 3 hours yesterday. Combine that with me accidentally dumping 3 gallons of kalk into the tank, my reef is a bit unhappy.

Looks like we will not be affected. Hopefully

Dunno why, I click on that link and get

Not Found

It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?

I mean does it know my location? Is it tell me I got nothing to worry about? Is it because SF forced all power users onto it's own service plan. Or is it some weird "page not found" error?

Expect it to start Wednesday morning until Thursday

Yeah, times vary depending on who you listen to, but it's expected to begin sometime between midnight and 4am Wednesday and last through midday Thursday. That said, the news mentioned it could take days to turn the power back on because PG&E needs to visually inspect each line first. So they're saying the total outage can be 2-5 days...

It's probably a good idea to buy a generator...
Any recommendations for reliable generators that don't break the bank?

Really depends upon your power needs/wants. I know Costco sells a decent enough 1kW generator for $170. Personally I'd opt for dual fuel and get a propane tank as those tend to be quieter and smell less plus a Propane tank keeps way better than gasoline for "just in case" moments. But those are going to be considerably more.

I also should say, much like when all the air quality stuff happened due to said wildfires you might be hard pressed to find a generator in stores now. I've heard of a couple Costcos being sold out, and most of this is because Costco typically doesn't keep huge quantities of these in stock, so any rush to buy is going to empty them pretty quickly. Might want to look at Amazon if you're really curious, maybe they have something with Prime and you can get it in a day?

I looked high and low for a propane generator or dual fuel and could not find a vendor that would ship to Cal.(illegal in California???) so I ended up with a gas powered. I also picked up a handful of 12 volt 800gph livewell/bait tank pumps from Bass Pro Shops. They were about $15 each and I figured in a pinch I could power them with one of the 5 cars in my driveway.
Cheers! Mark

Power is out at my house in San Carlos. Don't know if it's because of this shutdown BS or just a coincidence

So far so good in San Ramon although they're now saying Phase 2 will be between 8-10pm tonight. So far we're outside the outage area so crossing my fingers! :worried:

Yes but you won't like it.

The Honda's are the way to go. I sprung for a EU3000 about 10 years ago and no regrets. I have always been able to rely on it. That purchase came after several years of buying a new harbor freight quality generator every year or so when the last one broke.
