Puffers and Coral

Anyone have these two together? I know what "They" say but has anyone had success with these two together or disaster?

I had a valentini in a reef tank for 2 years. I just made sure he was always fed well never bothered a coral. But shrimp and snails were another story.

it really depends on the individual fish. Most puffers are known to chomp on corals, though IMO. Even more are known to chomp on inverts like shrimp, clams, etc. I had one in an older tank that would leave the smaller polyped zoas alone, but ate the larger ones. Very weird. The odds are that your puffer will at some point sample the corals.

It all depends on the individual. I had a porcupine puffer for about three years in a reef and he never ate anything I didn't feed him. I even added different types of shrimp after he was establish and they lived side by side. Keep in mind this is only IME but I have heard others with success stories. Unforunately, I lost Stewie when I moved and just haven't had much interest in replacing him.

I have a friend who had a blue spot puffer in his tank for years with no problems, but when another buddy purchased the fish from him it started munching on all his sps within a matter of days. So even a good fish can go bad:strooper:
