hey guys,
I am looking to purchase a puffer. I am not sure which guy I would like so my question is, I have a 55gal fully cycled, a couple orange lined cardinals (they cycled it). How would a dog face puffer do in the tank. Do you guys have any good sites to where i can purchase puffers, or forms

dogface would be OK if you got a small one but be warned they do get bigger than that tank will hold and I am sure others on here will send some recommendations on others but I would only expect a dogface to live in that tank for no more than two years due to growth.

blue dot puffer or spotted puffer are the only ones that will last any considerable time in a 55 but if you get a dogface and it gets too big just another way to justify bigger tank but just make sure that you get a very very small one so it isnt cramped in a 55 nothing worse than a fish in a barrel lol

both of those puffers have really good color and personality from what I have seen so should fit your tank nicely.

Any of the "toby" puffers will work. Otherwise don't get one unless an upgrade is in the future.
I'd go for a Valentini personally. Hawaiin Blue Spots are very pretty too.

what type of schooling fish would be best to put with the dog face puffer? I am interested in the blue reef chromis or the blue damsel. Is it better to stick with more aggressive fish in the tank such as damsels or shoud i go with peaceful tank mates? thanks

dose anyone know what i can put in with a puffer?
A lot of choices. I have a coral beauty, foxface, sailfin tang, and humma humma trigger.
He ate two clowns and three chromis when he was around 4". So I wouldn't add any unless they are food.

In my tank I have a pearl jawfish, and soon to be a dogface puffer. I was going to add in a few damsels since I am making my tank into a planted marine tank and dont want the macroalgea to be eaten.

Since I can not put any type of clean up crew in my tank, how do I keep my crushed coral still white? Should I just do a gravel vac once a month and a partial water change (5gal) once a week.

man, DON'T DO A DOGFACE!
They get way to big for a 55 gallon tank. The toby or sharpnose puffers would be an excellent choice. Second, puffers are MESSY the size of your substraight will make it hard to keep parameters in check with the amount of waste puffers create. If you do a toby, look at anthas, dwarf angels, clowns. ect But remember your 55 isn't big enough for tangs or triggers.

My tank is going threw the algea part of the cycle with brown algea then going to green. What is the best way to keep the brown algea from being to bad? And how do people keep there crushed coral tanks so white?
