Pukani Rock leacing PO4 like mad

How long would it take for rock to leach out enough phosphate to reach equilibrium with the water? I'm soaking my rock in water to see what the phosphate level is now after treating the rock, should I wait 24 or 48 hours before I test or longer?

I'd give it at least 48 hours to see what it's doing... Just take your time, no reason to be in a rush

Ok, I did my third w/c and I'm at 0.10ppm from 1.2ppm from when I started two weeks ago.

Cool, wait a few days and test again. If it's still .10 then you can decide if that's a manageable level to start your tank with/introduce into your established tank... I waited until I got a steady .05

It's been 48hr today so I'll test it tomorrow and see what I get, if it still .10 I'll give it another treatment. I like the sound of .05 or lower. Thx

I'm following along here as well. Just added 40lbs Pukani to cooking vats, along with 30lbs or so or rock from my tank to help seed. Display has been plagued with algae, mostly due to my on fault, for almost 2 years, so I'm cooking about half the LR with the Pukani, then will toss the other half from the tank and add what's been cooking. I've been adding 5ml PhosFree daily to each 20 gallon vat (three total) for almost 3 weeks now. Will probably give it another two or three weeks, then start gradually swapping into the display tank.

How long did it take your guy's Pukani to start leaching Phosphates?

I've had mine in DT for a week now and phosphates have been sitting at 0.13-0.15 and havent really moved. I have a Quart of Commercial SeaKlear that i havent used yet.

Before it went into the DT it was in 1:10 bleach water for 24 hours then Muriatic bath for 20 minutes then 6 days in RO/DI water (Changed 100% twice). And the phosphates in the soaking bins for the RO/DI never got more than 0.14 either.

If you're not dosing the SeaKlear or using GFO, the phosphate level will drop only with water changes with low-phosphate water.

I know it wont go down without water changes or Seaklear. But I was expecting it to go up some more, it hasnt gone up in a week.

I was expecting a ton with what people were saying about it, with theirs going to 0.5+ in a week or so.

Guess I will just sit and wait and see if it moves.

That's pretty good, my Brs pukani went to 1.2 after a week.
