Pulling the trigger on a Mag

It seems to be holding on no problem but its mouth is huge. Crappy pics but best I can do.

QT now, or leave it alone and wait?

And any way to convince it to walk back to the front of the rock its on

Not sure what threads you have been following but most of the ones I have been following are making a full recovery. I'm not saying all need treatment but some do. I'm not one to rush and treat at the first sign of a problem as I know these nems need a little time to adjust. But if they start to inflate/deflate they get it Sadly even with treatment some just don't make it. Thats how delicate these nems are. I treat nems like I would a fish if I buy it its qt'd for at least a week, and longer if needed(nems only fish get qt'd a lot longer). I don't want a sick nem in the same tank as my health ones. Ask OrionN what happens when you do that, it didnt end well for them and they lost two of the best looking mags I've ever saw. There unfourtant loss was a lesson to us all. As for the qt I keep mine the same as the dt. Its stocked with lr with a few shrooms I couldn't find a place for in my dt and a clean up crew 24/7 and is basicily a empty dt until needed. It has a full filtration and lighting system on it as well and gets the water changed the same as the main dt. You may think this is a little too much but the qt/ht cost less to set up than some of the livestock thats been kept in it
Plus should a new nem go south it most times happens pretty suddenly and will nuke your whole dt. But what do I know I do have a horseshoe crab that lives in one of mine half the time so my systems crazy anyways. To the thread starter: let us know if you get the mag and if you do any treatment. AND post some pics lol.

my intentions were not to bash your ways of handling anemone they were to convey my experience with keeping a mag anemone. i know that many people here has more experience then me and what works for someone does not necessarily works for another. i am sorry i didn't mean to come off like i was bashing on you and i wasn't pointing at you when i was saying people hurrying to treat the anemone, i was only speaking in general. as i said i am not an expert in this matter and obviously the treatment has been developed by many experienced aquarist for the best of anemone keeping. However, every body has to rely on his experience at some point no matter how many threads or books he reads and that is why i mentioned in my first post that this is my experience with the magnifica. i am only here to learn more about this great hobby and make more friends. i hope this has cleared the confusion :D.

From a post you posted 8/8/2012 I saw that you are from the Middle East and essentially got your anemone directly from the sea (or at least your LFS did).
No wonder. Good for you.
Most of the Magnifica that got to us traveled a long distance, house in cramped tank with less than ideal condition. Got exposed to infected and dying anemones.
What you get over there and what we get over here are drastically different. Good luck to you and happy reefing.

thanks for your kind words i live in qatar and the lfs always bring its stuff from Sri Lanka which is not in the middle east. it comes shipped and in bad conditions as well in here. this particular lfs is better off selling hardare nails then marine aquatics but what can i do there are only a handful of fish shops in my area and the decent ones asks stupidly expensive price for an anemone. hopefully i am really sorry for the owner of this thread as i seems like hijacked his thread.

Its all good no worries. I'm always up to hear everyone's experience.

Mine unfortunately won't be as easy as yours. It seems to be spitting its guts, so I set up my QT and put it in with some cipro.

I only had a 10g that was clean and ready to go. So I grabbed it added 5g of clean sw, put a divider, powerhead, and heater in. Then add the nem and cipro. Only did a 1/4 pill since it was a 500mg pill and only 5gs of water.

This is the pic as soon as I added him(the nem will be referred to as him from here out lol). I have a two bulb 54w eash T5 housing over the nem. My bta was very happy with that light. If it's not enough I can rig a 150w MH over the tank.

And now for the pic. I am open for suggestions and critics

That makes me feel better coming from you.

He has let go of the rock he was on, thank god for the divider. I placed him on the back side of the rock, out of the flow a little. Time for bed, see what I have in the am.

I would treat that mag. If it doesn't look any better or even looks at you funny slap it in the HT and treat it. They go quick and my experience is the quicker you treat the better your chances. And the quicker the recovery. I'm not gonna rehash my gigpocolypse but I would treat sooner rather than later.

Edit sorry, I didn't read this thread to the very bottom looks like you treated it. I had to put a fan on my mh to keep the tank from overheating. I would imagine mh would be welcomed by the mag.

So rig the MH that has a 6 month old bulb or a dual bulb 54 watt bulb T5 with bulbs that are about month old?

It will be under my AI Sol once it goes back into the DT

I think it need light, but not at the expense of getting the tank heat up. Make sure you don't cause temp spike with the light. I used a cheap screw in CF. The kind that use to replace incadescent bulbs. However I also have a east facing window with full natural light.

I'll keep the T5 then, doesn't seem to out off much heat.

The lights haven't come on yet, but it let go of the rock it was on and has planted itself in front of the PH.

I'll get a pic after lights are on

First morning after the start of treatment.

And I love being part of a local club, just got 20g of sw from a member in trade for some purple up. Just saved me about 20bucks.

Not ready helpful advise but i got a question what does the cipro help with. I plan on buying a flame tip bubble and I have little knowledge of Nem quarantine.
