There is a thread in the soft corals forum titled "yellow encrusting xenia (yex)" that is troubling me.
I received a fantastic piece of this coral from azdesertrat several months ago, and had it identified as, and also concure that it is Anthelia.
I'm curious if anyone else has been following this thread, and what their opinion is!
PLEASE help this debate!!!
Thanks!!! :)

i have an 8x8 inch rock comletely covered in anthelia and it looks nothing like this stuff . is yours really yellow. i would love to have a frag of it if it is. anthelia or not

anthelia

anthelia

Mine is under a HQI 250w 14,000K Phoenix bulb and looks purple/ blue with yellow highlights. If it is disturbed, and closes, it looks VERY yellow.
I'm at work now. I will try to post a picture of mine later, opened and closed.

There are many types of xenia and anthelia - as far as I know, anthelia grows in a mat and xenia grows in stalks. (I know that is extreme generalization)

That being said, I have a huge rock of an anthelia type that is identical to that guys "yellow" xenia. It is not special, I just gave away a giant colony on a rock.

I wonder about the differences because had a rock full of what I thought was anthelia - a large rock covering piece with polyps coming out everywhere. Well, after a tank meltdown (about a year ago), the little that remained has grown into two thick stalks. Weird!

My anthelia grows in stalks with thin tendrils between stalks and has a rough feel to it as compared to my xenia. Is there a pic of this stuff or a link to the thread?
