pulsing xenia

I have Xenia that is overtaking my tank... How do I get rid of this?

Is Xenia dangerous to handle? I know ZOE is dangerous to handle but is Xenia also dangerous? I was going to pull off the stalks of Xenia on the LR and replace it back into the tank.... the best method I have found to remove the xenia is with my hands... I seem to do a better job then with a rock cutter? I often touch my mushrooms and use my finger nails to remove it from rocks.. I do wear protective eye glasses.

Just read the thread on Paly poison and am now nervous.

Thanks!

You should be ok handling the Xenia. As far as removing it goes, just do whatever method is easiest for you, but make sure to get all of the tissue out though. If anything is left behind it will most likely grow back. Scrubbing the rock with a wire brush to remove any remaining tissue might be a good idea, just make sure to do this in a separate container though. GL.

For any flesh remaining on the rock you can put a little Kalk paste on it while it is still out of the water. Just a thin coat and you can leave it on there when you put it back in the tank, if you use too much I would remove it though.

So the xenia is in both my SW tanks... I will be an expert by the time I am Xenia free... and will share what worked the best. Honestly if I use my fingernails... I can pull with the right pressure.. and the xenia just pops off does not tear.. and nothing goes missing in the tank. All other methods have the xenia oozing. But was nervous toxic shock?

Thanks!!

Do a search on removing blue clove polyps. The same method has been reported to work for xenia.
