Pump Help

I'm looking to pump my salt water from my garage up stairs to my tank...sick of carrying up the salt water in totes....any good submersible pumps that can do that ?
 
How many feet does it have to go and how high up. Going basically flat from garage to where the tank is and then from that plane up. Also if you're in a freeze area you need to bury the tube at least 4-5 feet and maybe more. Just depends on how deep your freeze line is below ground. But I can tell you that you're gonna need a pretty powerful pump.
 
I would think that you'll need something like this, of course there are less capacity pumps but this quality and type of pump if you're running 50' or so including to the second floor of your house. Look at the drop down for choices. I'm thinking the 250PS

I don't trust Harbor Freight especially for something like this. The head lift on that one is only 23' and I wouldn't trust a $60 pump, but in a pinch...
 
I've had a HF pump in my 29 gallon FOWLR for 3-1/2 years no problem, it was so cheap I keep a spare in the stand ready to go. Also use the largest one they have in my pond, the first one lasted 4-1/2 years running 24/7.

I'm going to use this one just to fill my aquarium and when I do water changes, I hope with 23 ft of lift it can go up one floor!
 
He was asking for a submersible pump i believe, I would recommend a mag24, it will more than likely do the job.
 
The Mag 24 is a decent pump but I'm not sure it will do what the OP needs. It's only got a head of 20' the one I listed above is 45'. I guess it will all boil down to how far the OP needs to push the water and to what height as well as the size of sump an DT all will come into play.

right, but the OP is looking for a SUBMERSIBLE pump. If you put said I Iwaki in a barrel of water....you are going to have a bad time.;)

but both the blue line and Iwaki are not submersible pumps. The OP Stated he wanted submersible. the mag 24 will easily push water up one story no issues. It also kicks out so much heat that he probably won't need a heater for his saltwater mixing vat if he chooses to use it/plumb it that way. Out of all non direct drive pumps, mags are the way to go if you want decent head pressure.
 
The mag 24 is awesome. I had sumps in my basement and used a mag24 and 1.5" pvc to get water pumped up to the display in the upper level. It had no problem at all, and flowed so much I had to put a ball valve in because my overflows couldn't handle what it could put out.
 
There is a used Like New Mag 24 in the for sale section if you're interested. The seller is asking $100 shipped. Had this for a backup pump
 
I use a mag18 to move the water from my basement mixing station up to the DT on the 1st floor, so probably 10' up, and a horizontal run of about 20'. I used 3/4" pvc to plumb it. The flow is adequate, but when the mag18 dies I'll replace it with a mag24. IMHO, the mag drives are great for water transport, but as I have found by leaving it on all night, they generate a huge amount of heat. Not necessarily a bad thing if your water is in the garage?

And FWIW - I use a $10 remote power switch I got from Menards to turn the pump on/off. Best $10 I ever spent.
