pump hum

We have 2 reeflo manta rays that just hum all day long and the noise is getting unbearable. You can hear reverberating through the walls throughout the whole house. One is a closed loop and the other is the main sump pump. Is there anything I can do to be rid of the noise or are there quieter pumps?

for my internal pumps I put some sand in a ziplock bag and used it under the pump like a pillow. DOnt know if that would help either of you but it worked for me.

Not at the moment. It's pretty basic though. Sump -> Pump -> Display/Fuge/Frag/Chiller -> Sump and Display -> Pump -> Display. Both pumps are in the basement.

It's hard to say, It could just be vibration or maybe the pump itself is just loud? If you can figure that much out then I suspect you will be on your way to solving the problem. Some pumps are much quieter then other.

Are reeflo pumps generally loud for others? I'm thinking of cutting some of the hard pvc and replacing with flex pool pipe to see if vibration is an issue.

I get the feeling that some of the reeflo pumps are quieter then others. The install and the plumbing can make a big difference on a pump like that.

I had that problem with my Iwaki. The pipe vibrated and acted like a drum noisewise. Securing the pump to the floor or platform may help.

Ok, well I guess I'll go ahead and change out some of the pipes to see if that helps. I was thinking of bolting it to the ground but thought the noise might get worse. Hmmm.

Isolate it on some sort of rubber shim. I would think the softer the better.

I think bolting it will reduce the vibration it passe to the pipes.

reeeflow pumps are generally yhe quietest on market IMO. Try bolting down to somthing solid this will help if its possible also get a rubber gasket material and bolt through that. Changing hard pipe to flex will only dampen vibration in the plumbing its self, which acts as an amplifer for the root of the problem. flex pipe may stop the noise but the pump will still be bouncing around and that cant be good for it. mine are all mounted directly under my couch and you could hear a pin drop.

Ok thanks for the responses everyone. I'll give it a try. I think I'll order some industrial dampening mounts from amazon.com. I'll post back with results after the pump is bolted down.

Ok well the vibration dampeners did help. Significantly too. I think the remaining problem is coming from the vibration that travels up the pipes and hits the ceiling and goes up into the next floor.

try mousepad material...I have a panworld on an office depot special and it helped with vibration...and it was cheap.

sorry..didnt scroll down far enough..next problem.. how about pipe insulation? it just goes around the pipe and sticks together..can be held on with zip ties too.

I use square silicone trivits from Target. you know, to put under a hot pan when you put it on the kitchen table. in the housewares section, where the spatulas are, etc, and are packs of three.

i might be too late with my suggestion but they're cheap, removable, and waterproof.

I cut up an old neoprene muose pad and put it under mine...
