ive got an aquamedic ocean runner3500 that came with my second hand aquamedic 5000 shorty skimmer about 6 months ago. ive now got to the point of starting the skimmer up on my system but the pump wont work. i think ive read somewhere that when starting up after being off for a while they might not always start up. im not sure if im imagining this or it can be the case. if so how do you get it working again?

While I'm not familar with the Ocean Runner pumps, there are a couple of things you can look at generically.
1. When you plug the pump in, does it buzz or make any sounds at all?
2. Can you pull the head apart and check for a stuck impellar? It's pretty common for some pumps to have their impellers to get stuck in one place if they aren't drained and flushed before storage. Be sure that the impellar spins easily on the shaft when you get it apart.
Start there and let us know what you find...

You can look at it this way... It's already broke, it can only get better from here. For some reason, my wife doesn't buy that any more so your mileage may vary...
