Pump question

So I just upgraded from my 90 gallon tank to a 150. My question is on the 90 I was running a mag 7 and it did a great job and was quiet. Unfortunately when I let the 90 go the mag 7 went with it.

Now on the 150 I bought a pump rated about 1200gph at 5' but it was cheap and is far too loud and I am going to replace it. ( only been running 24 hours so I don't know if they quite down with time )

Since the 150 has dual drains / returns I was toying with the idea of instead of running just one pump ( maybe a mag 1200 or Quite one 5000 ) I was thinking of running two independent sumps and return pumps.

My thought is if I run two smaller pumps they should be quieter but give me the same if not better flow.

What's everyone's opinion?

Thanks,

Jeff

Running two independent sumps with two return pumps is a flood waiting to happen. You can't reliably control how much overflow goes to each sump. If you want to have two sumps, one sump should overflow into the next then return pump back to display.

mag 7 and it did a great job and was quiet.

Holy smokes, an RC first, someone claiming a Mag 7 was quiet....you are way too easy to impress. seriously tho....Eheim 1262 is a workhose, tried and true proven pump thats super easy on the ears. might be a bit more cash up front, but you set it and forget it. built like a tank and will run for years.

there's a ton more options out there, but you'll hear most folks refer you to an eheim, for good reason.

i second previous sentiments, no need to run two pumps, just get you one good one, save on the real estate.

oh, and welcome to RC.

I run two seperate pumps on my 300 with one sump and shut one pump down at 10pm and start back up at 8am. I have a mag 7 on my 65 which is in my bedroom and it is super quiet.
