I need a submersible pump for a 125, reef ready with dual overflow boxes. The pump I have is not nearly powerfull enough. Any suggestions? What flow rate can the overflows handle? Does anyone have one for sale?

Thanks,

Karen

For submersible pumps I've used Mag and Silent One. Like them both.

For external, Reeflow pumps (aka sequence) are great. Panworld and LittleGiant are good pumps I've had too.

Usually your overflow is rated for gph. You'll have to take that into account plus any head pressure loss.

Do you run it your Mag 18 in-line or submerged? How noisy is it?

Thanks -

I have mine submerged in my sump. It's very quiet, my tank is in my living room and if it wasn't my wife would have a fit. I will tell you, that I have a ball valve on it and have it throttled back a little. For 2 reasons, the first is I have all softies in my tank and it was blowing all my corals around like crazy. Some stuff wouldn't even open. Secondly if your tank does not have a canopy on it, with the mag 18 your overflows will make a lot noise. Before I put my canopy on and backed it down with the ball valve, it sounded like a water fall or raging river in my house. Whenever I replace it, I think that I will get a Mag 12.

Thanks for the input, I have a Mag 9 on my 55 and haven't had any problems with it, sounds like Mag is the way to go. I'll stick with the 12, probably have less trouble balancing with it.

i really like the mag pumps too have had several and used them for years with no problems the little giant pumps i like too for external use they last for ever it seems like
