Pump Recommendation

I'm getting too old to haul buckets of water up from the basement every week. I intend to drill a hole in the floor near my tank and pump water to a receptacle for water changes. I use a Mag Drive 9.5 as a return pump, so if I could use another one for water changes, I'd also have a spare return pump on hand. The question is, will the Mag Drive 9.5 be sufficient to move water around ten to twelve feet?

As long as you're not concerned about speed, sure. It'll push out somewhere between 100 and 300gph at that height if you've got a straight shot and minimal fittings. Don't use less than 1" tubing. You have to be accurate with that 10-12' measure. Things tail off a lot after that and approach shutoff for the pump. Much past 13 and it will barely work at all.

A basement sump would be terrific, but I wouldn't know how to begin such a thing. What would I do with the sump that's under the tank? I'm not up to the effort of emptying the Display to remove the existing sump. I love the hobby, but I have to face the fact that I have some restrictions on what I can attempt as I age. Just omitting the job of carrying water up the stairs would be an enormous help.
