Pump Selection Help

Hey guys, need some thoughts on a choice of pump for a rather specific application. In my new house my tank rests in the living room of the 2nd floor of an old North Buffalo double. My varoius storage tanks (saltwater and topoff water) are of course all in the basement and I'm getting sick of lugging water upstairs. When I re-did my kitchen to the studs I had access to the wall space that runs all the way down to the basement so I installed a 1/2" line thinking I could get a gear pump to push up from the basement to the 2nd floor kitchen and take things from there. Of course I can't seem to find a gear pump that suits my needs now and am kind of limited with that 1/2" pipe. Not gonna go back and knock out those walls now... So what I'm looking for is:

~2-4gpm at 20 feet of head pressure. Don't really care if it's AC or DC, but I'd rather it not be 220AC and I'm prepared to spend "some" money, but would rather keep it under $400 ;). Every gear pump I can find is either too small, too big, or doesn't seem to have pump curve characteristics. I could consider centrifugals, but the 1/2" line is pretty limiting and will quickly sap their already limited head capacities. Sump pumps were a thought, but again, they're not designed for 1/2" lines and would probably suck a big one after 20 vertical feet of 1/2" line.

Any thoughts, sources, etc?
 
I don't think you need a gear pump. Something like a Blueline 70 can pump 20 feet easily, I'm not sure if it will enjoy the backpressure though.

Another idea is to have a second stage halfway up, but of course, that requires two pumps.

Tagging along on this thread because I am in the process of figuring out a very similar setup. Curious to hear the answers!
 
I have a blueline 70 available. It was way too much pump for my system with 15 feet of head loss. I scaled back to a blueline 55.
 
At 20 feet the pressure would be 46.5 psi...

Actually Will, 20 foot of head = 8.6705500386 pound/square inch. Add in the pressure of going through 1/2" copper pipe at 4gpm and that's another 3.4809057122 pound/square inch. so 3.5+8.7=12.2psi of pressure loss that I'm dealing with.

I suppose a pressure rated centrifugal pump might work I'm just a little worried about it for reasons I can't really articulate. Lets just say I never trust a centrifugal to run at high pressures.

Nico, good call on diaphragm pumps, hadn't even thought of those. Noise isn't an issue really, so good call.

Ben, what are the fitting sizes on your blueline 70? And when you had it running in that setup with 15' of head, what diameter pipes was that running? I'm going to assume something beefier like 1"+?

And thanks for that great list of pump specs, nice to see what things can do. Also reminded me that I could borrow the Iwaki MD 100RLT we have at work to test it out, would give me an idea if a centrifugal was even possible...
