pump suggestions

Hello Roger,

I have made inquiries here in the past on equipment for my current 130 gal. I decided to wait as we are in the build stage of a new home that will incorporate and inwall tank.

It will be 72X30X30 (approx. 280 gal.) I currently have all softies, but plan to transisition to a good deal of SPS when I get into the new tank.

What would you recomend for this setup? The tank will be eurobraced with on the back external overflows.

Thanks.

Hi Roger,

I know this may not be a fair question, but I need to get off of high center and order my tank. My intension has always been to go with the Tunze system for water movement, but I want to make sure.

What are the advantages/disadvantages vs. closed loop. Some are obvious and I have read allot, but I thought I may be able to benefit from your wisdom in relation to your product.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure what comparisons you want me to make but the main features I can emphasize is they use less power, are more versatile and add less heat than most other flow solutions. Tunze has also been in business for 46 years and you generally won't have problems with parts or service down the road.

All good information. If I did not want to go with the wavebox right away, would a third stream be a good option?

What amount of flow from the return pump would you reccomend?

I don't see any point to a third stream, the wavebox creates a unique flow that is a nice add on but in terms of flow you would have plenty. I would use something that does about 600-750gph for a return.

Thank you very much for your input. I think I will plan on starting with the TS24 and adding the wavebox at a later date.

Oh, would you just have the return pump feed a couple of loc lines and have them adgitate the surface?

It doesn't matter much really, the Streams will cover that, it mainly just to bring the water back from the sump.

Roger,

I am in the ordering process of my new tank. I am going to go w/ the Tunze system (probably just the 2 streams and multicontroller to start). I am going to have them drill the eurobracing to accomidate the cords. How large is the connector that will need to be fed through it?

Also, what would be your recomendation on placement?

Thanks.

A 3/4" hole would be sufficient. In general the back corners are the best place to place the pumps.
