So hey everyone I'm new to this awesome hobby I bought a nice tank already running for 5 months it was covered in algae when I got it so I cleaned it did a water change like 30% since it was pretty dirty and adjusted the salinity on point even got a clown fish that's doing great well today I picked up some coral and got a new Xenia frag it looked nice but wasn't pumping it was kinda flowing and sort of pumping well I put it in my tank take a nap my gf turns off the led in my tank while I'm sleeping and I wake up and see that my Xenia is shrinking 5 hrs later I turned on my light and now I'm kinda sad because I really like this one is it in some type of shock since it's in a new tank I have a 8 gallon with some live rocks and some Zoa's 1 clownfish tested the the water everything seem to be fine where it's suppose to be maybe it might be my water temp it's at 86 F

It's actually pulsing Xenia , I recommend buy a good book on saltwater tanks. What are your water parameters? What is your fresh water source? what light do you have? How are you moving the water? What type of filtration are you using? Why is your tank too hot?

My salinity is at 1.021-1.020
My phosphate is at 0 ppm
Nitrates 0 ppm
I need to test my calcium and KH
I did a water change with some saltwater from my local aquarium store like 3 days before I put my Xenia in it's an 8gal tank and I didn't have any RO water so I used distilled water from wall greens since it was late and my salinity was crazy high (3 days before Xenia) other corals look fine except that one

As mentioned your salinity is too low. Raise it slowly over a couple of days. Also 86 is way too warm. If you are going to be successful in this hobby your water parameters need to be stable.

Could be adjusting to the new environment and or the salinity is low.

You said your water temp is 86. It's my understanding that oxygen levels start to plummet at 85 degrees, which could also affect your pH. Perhaps that's creating a problem for your xenias.

hey guys I know its been a while but that xenia died I think its the temps but now I have a chiller and a few more corals now everything looks fine now I got another xenia but its been short and pulsing I think its getting use to my aquarium but I think its fine I got it like 4-5 days ago and it hasn't died the last xenia I had died in 24 hrs
