anyone used purigen by sea chem in you sps tanks? i have some bryopsis that i am winning the battle on slowly but i want to really knock it down.

i have heard from a couple people that purigen if you run it will bleach out the bryopsis at which time their tang ate it. but you need to remove it before your SPS bleach.

anyone used it? recommendations? used it w/ sps or bryopsis??

Lunch what I found to work at getting rid of the bryopsis is a bunch of lettuce nudis. I used about 12 on my 75 and they wiped it out.

redwinuger - ok lettuce nudis...where you get them and what happens when all the bryopsis is gone???

I read a lot of stuff on Purigen, never read any real bad stuff with SPS. I used it once, didnt notice any good or bad, my tank was in good shape at the time.

Do you run any phosphate remover?

I have been using Purigen for a long time now in my tank instead of carbon... I have never once noticed any bad effects from it... I have no problem recommending it... 1 thing you will notice is your skimmer will slow down as the purigen is taking lots of organics and quickly... The first use Plan on regenerating the media after a week or less..

Hef - i run phosban and just changed it about 2-3wks ago.

Illusion - really plan on recharging in that soon??? i do water changes and feed lightly so i can't see how i would have that much to take out

Well I hear its a common complain that the First time that its used it has to be recharged within a week... Seachems claim is that it pulls out stuff that people didnt know was in their tank... After the first Use it gets better... I have been running EXTREME amounts of it in my tank without issues..

I tried recharging mine, but never really trusted putting it back in the tank. After going through 3 bags, I can't tell what it was pulling out - but definately dark brown. I had 2 colonies RTN during that period - not sure why - but I'm staying away from purigen for a while....

I was using a filter bag that I got from Premium Aquatics however It since finally got a hole in it so I have temporarily stopped using it until I can get another bag.. As for Extreme amounts I was using enough for 1000g in my approx 300g system...

worked good without any issues here..

I've been using it in a reactor along with phosban and carbon 24/7 for over a year now and I also recharged it a few times with no ill effects. The trick with the recharge is after using the bleach to let it soak overnight and rinse it in RO/DI water.

I just ran it for a few weeks and noticed no change, either positive or negative. Im just going to run carbon from now on.
