Purple And Yellow Tang compatibility

Look, the important thing to remember is there are no absolutes -well, maybe a few - in keeping marine aquaria. To the topic at hand, trying to keep purple and yellow tangs together often works, but sometimes it doesn't. Depends on controllable things like tank size, other tankmates, how much they are fed, etc. as well as on uncontrollable things like individual temperament.

I currently have a purple, yellow and sailfin in a 265. They have all been together for almost four months. The sailfin gets left alone, but the yellow and purple are always going at it. Not to the point where I worry for the safety of either, but the purple regularly has chunks missing from its fins.

I kept 3 tangs in a lightly stocked 6ft 125g. All were different genus and had alot of rockwork to hide in. I would not suggest any tank smaller than a 220 or 8ft tank with two zebrasoma. It can be done but odds are against good sense on an average fish.

I have a 144 half circle tank with a purple tang, sailfin tang, unicorn tang, naso tang and 2 blue hippo tangs. They all get along great without any fighting. Each fish has its own personality just like people some get along and some don't

Holy old thread!
I have a Desjardini, Orangestriped Bristetooth, Orange Shoulder and Foxface that play together nicely.

Scenario 1: 1 yt, 1 purp, 1 sail. All get along fine - Evidence it works
Scenario 2: 1yt, 1 pupr, 1 sail. Sail dies
Scenario 3: 1yt, 1 pupr, 1 sail. Purple dies
Scenario 3: 1yt, 1 pupr, 1 sail. Yellow Dies

are we all following? the people that say don't do it base it off their own experience, the ones that do it, are doing it off their own experience. You jump down a guys throat for having a couple fishies in his tank, what do you expect him to do? roll over and take it?

btw I have a sail and a yellow in mine, no issues at all. I also have a hippo and white cheek, different families, but they fought, now they get along. Is banishing a fish to a glass box with water not the same thing as putting a tang in a tank that's too small based off some guideline that was not scientifically studied?

Question

:bounce1:Very interesting thread if it wasn't for all the fights. But anyways helpful in my decision. I have a 72 gallons with a yellow (10 years old) and a blue (3 years old) and a powder blue (2 years old) they are doing fine. They fight a little if I let them be hungry so I try to make sure to feed them right and they get along. They hate when I do water change but other than those circumstances they are healthy and very fat. Lol
My wish is to get a new tank with 240 G and a big sump (65G) at least but I want to have at least 3 yellows 2 purple, 1 powder, 2 blue regal. Is that doable? That is why I am investigating it. I have seen many pictures that they have them on that size tank but I want to learn how to introduce them and when:-/. Any more ideas? Can I add them all together? And watch the parameters of the water ?:bounce1:

i think your best chance of them all getting along is adding them together...but you will need a powerful skimmer for that many tangs!

No I'm not trolling I was being sarcastic. sorry I just find it funny how some people really push "their" opinion as gospel. Somethings are "written" in stone some are not...
Kind of of the same thing regarding this subject and how you responded. I don't think much has been written in stone since the ten commandments.
