Interesting comment. Would anyone like to describe what makes a garf bonsai different from other A. Validas , excluding lineage to garf because I think this coral has been around too long to trace back anyone's lineage

What little I know is that it has been described somewhat lokani like with smooth skin, heard it grows with best coloring under vho, same colony will have different lighting up high vs low, reportedly to be more purple lower down, so purple to blue body with bright green polyps. I do not believe garf.org sells it. I don't know of any specific features to truly differentiate or identify it. I have always looked at growth pattern,ie. a bonsai shape, usually tabling but not round colony shape more like a wind swept tree along Carmel coast to complete the description in the name, hence bonsai

GARF is the original company that sold the "GARF" bonsai... they stopped selling it around 2002. There are LOTS of other purple bonsais out there but the original is the GARF bonsai FWIW.

+1

I still have a piece, although it does not like my LEDs. The purple is not complete and deep.

wow nice.. yes, mine came from garf~..

Mine died when my RBTA exploded few years back.... luckily, my friend had frags~.and also got some from local reefers who got my frags~..

I bleached my frag the other day. Had it way too high on a rack and put it on the bottom today. Hope it recovers.

It would be nice for everyone to put up what lighting they're using and where their placement is.

Mine is right under Radion G2 100% Max growth protocol (Blue) 14 hrs per day. I got 6 Radions 3G3 pro, 2 G2 and 1 G1. The lights are 10 inches above the water and the coral is about 14 inches below the water line. The tank is 6 foot X 30 inches.

here is my garf. my buddy daniel took these as my camera skills are nonexistent. i have it about midway in the tank under a reefbreeders led fixture. it has always had this coloring no matter what lighting. t-5 and now led. very hardy as well.

A month or so after I got mine...it has since lost this incredible look as it's grown. Bought time for an updated shot, have to get the camera out.

I think I killed mine. I moved my frag up to a frag rack and I guess underestimated my Phoenix. I bleached it big time, moved down to the bottom and I think it's done. I'm going to leave it in there though. There's still some PE, but so minimal. We'll see.
