Purple Based Mag cipro log..

Just Reefin'
Was at my LFS and they had this nice purple based mag that is deflated and not looking happy. Mouth is not gaping, no insides coming out, just deflated for lights out coming soon... Good news is, they are letting me treat w\ cipro I have left over..

Heading over now and will post pictures when it is in the QT tank.. it's all setup and ready. Hang on tight folks!

OK, so just got it home, QT is up, water is getting warm and the Mag is temp acclimating.. There is a nice flat shelf rock for him to attach to when ready...

Here's how I saw the Mag today at the LFS... Mouth wasn't gaping, but did NOT look happy... I actually saw this Mag when it came in on day #1 and it looked awesome.. sad to see it get to this state.

I can't seem to get a good picture of him right now because of the lights, but will do cipro shortly, and take pictures in the morning.

looks like it might a good size to

When I saw it on day one, was probably 6-7"... Real nice posture but as usual went downhill an quick. They had no intention of treating so I'm helping.

I'm not even going to keep the Mag as I am unsure of how it would all interact with my Gigs. In exchange I get fish credits, or whatever credit!

Funny thing is, they were told it as an LTA, and had it up for $20 until I provided the ID.. Will be a beauty once it is treated. It was either it died there or I treated it so I chose the latter.

well thats good i would not risk it with the gigs either ---wish my store here would get one for 20 oh well good luck and glad to see that are good people still in the hobby

Why is that, I wonder? Not economically feasible for them to do so? Don't know how, cannot be bothered? Just based on my own personal experience and the experiences of others here, a relatively simple treatment with Cipro seems like it can significantly improve the success rate with these animals. Good for you!

It's feasible, but from what I can tell anemones aren't the bread and butter of this shop. The average person walking into the store comes in for A) water B) fish C) supplies D) corals.

Spending a week doing what I'm doing to sell the mag (which was labeled a LTA) isn't going to happen unfortunately..

Here's a shot of the morning, when I just changed 5G of water... I can't seem to get a good non-blue heavy picture for the life of me! What in the heck...

Either way, mouth is starting to close a little bit and he's puckering up. Tentacles haven't re-inflated much yet, but lights just came on.

not looking to bad there

He looks much better now, the foot and column are getting larger, and continuing to plant onto the rock.. The mouth is puckered, reasonably tight, and more tentacles are inflating...

Looking good so far.

Here is a lunch time picture..

The column is getting much much bigger, i can see the purple now, it's planting itself very firmly.. Some tentacles are inflated, much more are deflated, but mouth is in the process of expelling waste (or bacteria, zoox, etc)... I have no doubt in my mind that if left untreated this Mag would have perished in short order..

Hoping he pulls through and don't mind the exposure and sharpening, it's the only way I can get anything to take pictures without ridiculous blues..

real good progress good job on your part for spoting it in the store and taking your time to save it.

Thanks everyone... afternoon progress is remarkably good actually..

More of the pedal is starting to lay flat and show itself, and more tentacles are getting inflated but the biggest achievement is the posture. Mags when healthy will prominently show off the column with the large pedal and this guy is showing me more of his column. It's starting to look like he's pulling himself up and not just being a floppy pancake.

Very excited, but looking real good so far, and glad I'm treating him.

I would of done the same as you im sure others on here would to hard to see a animal suffer for no reason
