I was watching his tanks for a few weeks, only getting over once every few/5-6 days. The last time I was there, I think there was 5-6 days inbetween us tending, they looked just slightly light, but still looked normal, I didn't guess they were starting to bleach. I just figured I wasn't remembering them right. I only did a couple water changes inbetween, and they were small ones. A 44 gallon brute was 3/4 way full, and I used half on one tank, half on the other (120 and 225 gallon displays). Not enough water changes IMO, AND, every time I tested the KH, it was very low. I'd add reef builder, but really needed buffer. Only thing I can think happened, and my best guess, I tried raising KH too fast with my infrequent visits, using the wrong shtuff.

Atleast they've all made it, and are coloring up nicely... and I don't have to part with any of mine as a replacement....

I believe you are right. I think it was the water params. KH could have definetly did it.

I sure wish you would part with a few of those nice gigs of yours.

Yeah, I think they will be back to normal in another month or two. It can take about 3 months sometimes. Check out these pics.

Guys, I tried to raise kh to 10 but had an adverse effect with the nems, they would really close up, irritated more so. So have been using limewater instead in every water changes of 6 gallons twice-thrice a week and seems like they are all responding well even the purple way on right side is coloring up and tentacles are extending, sign of happiness, with added zoo color. No worries Dave, They are coming back now and just in time, when I look down on the goliath, he is getting darker from up top and his mouth is tight. My kh stays at 7 to 8 for some reason and tried to push it further but using reef builder seems to irritate them, any ideas Dave? Cleaning the tank up was half the battle and clearing some of live rocks too that were fouling the water due to hair and macroalgae helped so water parameters is a key to good healthy nems and notice been adding mg lately has also added fullness to nems, I was lacking in that too I am sure hence algae growth went hay wire.

I use Lime water and Ca reactor. My Alkalinity is 4.0 which is about 11.4 or so dKH. Ca is at 450. I just check yesterday. My anemones tolerate the high Alkalinity without problem. I don't think the alkalinity is the problem. Add Sodium Bicarb quickly can spike the pH of the tank. If you add this, you need to add slow, not quite slow as Lime water but you can't just dump it in either.

so sodium bicarbonate is the reef builder Minh, Hope to turn this tank around, thanks for your input. I should test it with another tester to be accurate with salifert, will get back to you guys tonight.

Minh, it is 8.3 on salifert test so closer than I thought but due time, the kh will get there.

Yes, it's a Magnifica, but he's still bleached. I posted the pics as a reference for how long it might take for your Gig's to color up. I sold that mag to a friend that's taken great care of him. I think in another month he will be close to normal again. He was bleached because I received him in bad shape.

They have turned seasonal around here. I remember 10 years ago, my uncle was into salt also, we would drive around all day on the weekends looking for gigs. We'd go down to tinley park area, hit 4-5 shops with no luck, drive out to Rod's when he was selling, (I'm glad he wouldn't sell his purples, I would have killed it back then), go north to a few, we'd spend weekend after weekend for a hunt, only to find one or two browns in poor shape once in a while. Now, it seems when they come in, only a couple shops bring them in, and when they do, it's usually in groups, and colors now too. I remember driving with you, big Kev, and Chad when global was a "retailer only", watching them dump 20 gigs on top of each other into a 5 gallon bucket (before cipro) knowing they were all already condemned to death. I would have snached them all up at that time, but Cisco was on drugs when he'd price them, so I was never willing to get any from them....

Now, I think someone in the chain is medicating them, when AP has them, he meds them now. Last trip I was there, he had a huge purple that looked nice and brown, 12"+, and had several more too. Twice a year it seems they are always in stock in atleast a couple shops now, for the last several years. could have to do with the shipping of them too.

The snowcasso clowns are getting darker but the onyx are taking their time turning black, not sure why Minh, new to these fishes and nems, thanks Minh I agree the nems are getting better.

Just doing my usual snooping that I only do anymore, it makes me happy to see all the compliments on my clowns and im aware that post was made awhile ago

Peter, just an FYI, I have noticed with my clowns, some of the normal Clowns, there black took forever to fill in(still taking forever) while others filled in significantly faster, that being said I believe the reason for it is, if they took after the male (rods onyx) they filled in a lot faster, if they took after the female (Booyah's Snowonyx) the black filled in a lot slower,

my theory on it is because the female, is still filling in her black after 3 years of me having her... her fins are finally almost 90% filled in
