purple firefish

I just bought a purple firefish. The thing is gorgeous. I know that they like to hide in caves and what not. Once they are comfortable in the tank, how much of the time do they spend hiding vs swimming around??? I would like to see the thing more often. It has only been in my tank for a couple of days and I am just a little impatient. He has been out a couple times, but I scared him back in right away.

Stay away from the tank as much as you can and observe from a far for a week or so. When you feed, put a little food in and walk away and watch, then repeat. Soon it will become more comfortable with you and associate you with food. They are skittish little buggers though.

As long as they are not harassed by other fish, they will spend the majority of thier time out and about. My fish (girlfriend named it 'Glow') is always out in a fairly active 55G tank.

i have a pair and i only see them when feeding, they used to get harrassed from a 6 lne wrasse but even when that was removed 6 months ago they still hide.

I've had mine for about 4 months now and he is out all the time when the lights are on in the tank. He tends to hide more when the lights are off.
