anyone having success in keeping this type of gorgonia? is it photosyntetic or not?

In order to tell, you will probably need either a photo or a scientific name, if not both. The problem is that common names change with the person selling the species.

If you collected it locally it is one of 2 purple plumes. One is slimey when you touch it the other not. The slimey one is easy to care for and lives well the other not so much, not sure why because found together on reef and both photosynthetic, but non slimey one doesn't do as well. Like Icy1155 says, without picture/scientific name just a guess.
