I purchased a purple Goniopora a week ago and it still hasn't opened up fully. Occasionally it shows a few 'nubs' but thats it. My LFS told me that P. Goniopora's take a long time to acclimate. Is this true or do I need to be concerned?
You could give it another week, especially if you have metal halide bulbs. It might be reacting to a lot of new light. Otherwise, you could post all your water parameters and we could see if anything looks bad.
Not only are these corals touchy with acclimation but they also dont survive for more than a few months since they slowly starve. These corals in the wild are in high flow current and the water is so dirty and murky you cant see through it.
Make sure you have good lighting and high flow where the coral is. Hopefully you will have better luck with this specimen.
kuoka, it took our purple goniopora a while to start coming out. The LFS that it was kept at had it under about 30 watts of flourescent light :eek1: and no water flow whatsoever. Once in our tank, it was just a matter of time for it to acclimate to our PCs. Give it time. Try enticing it to eat with some Liquid Life. That will help a lot. Best of luck.
