Unfortunately, I'm afraid your goniopora is toast :(. That type of algae moves down underneath the polyps, between the skeleton and the tissue, and dislodges the polyps from the skeleton. That is why the polyps seem to be tearing off. It is a tough problem to get rid of and yours is in a very advanced state. With your lighting, the polyps will continue to be dislodged no matter where you put the coral in your tank.

Feeding won't help this one.

Makes me wonder if there's a coral-safe algacide (algaecide?) that you could use in a quarantine tank, just to get the goni in good enough shape to do feedings.

It may actually be a type of cyanobacteria. I had a patch of this on a goni and had to keep the coral partially upside down under very low light. It currently appears to have gone away, but I'm not %100 positive.....the low light may have just slowed it down. My plan "B" is to dose the tank with erythromycin, which I have used with another type of algae-like cyanobacteria looking problem on Goniopora.

Not only are the polyps in the pic extremely regressed from starvation, but even if the green stuff in the pic was instantly gone, most of the polyps would continue to recede before they began to turn around. Many of them also appear to be disconnected from the tops of the corallite walls (theca), and once that happens, the polyp usually continues to detatch and die off.

It may not be completely impossible to revive, but I don't think there is much hope.

this is how i got it. from a group buy at
www.atlantisaquarium.net/
That is terrible if you received the coral in this condition. You oughtta get your money back. It probably took a month or more for that coral to be covered that bad.

ps. you have pm
